i spent the week with all three of my sisters in town. in some ways we couldn't be more different, but in many more, we are all the same. ...all fighting hard battles in our own ways, all doing the best we can with what we've got, all growing deeper roots and trying, as best we can, to keep our faces toward the Sun. ☀️

it took us lots of years to learn to be gentle with one another's pain (especially when we're the ones who caused it! ) for years, conflict has come much more easily than connection.

but i think we're finally there. setting differences aside. giving heaps of grace. being quiet instead of offering unsolicited advice. hugging tight instead of self-protecting.

finally, we're not just sisters; we're lifelong friends. and i genuinely consider myself so very lucky to be loved by such strong, wise women. .

We are in a time where chronic disease is becoming more and more common
It is almost impossible to meet someone that doesn’t have family members or friends without some sort of illness whether it be anxiety, depression, cancer or diabetes
I think the reason for this is the sheer amount of toxins we are loading our bodies with. Toxins are impossible to avoid in the form of pollution and chemicals. We are overprescribing antibiotics even when we can treat these problems naturally
If we look at Weston A. Prices book, Nutritional and physical degeneration, the tribes and cultures that Doctor Price visited were absent of Chronic Disease and mental illness. What did they do differently?
It was nearly impossible for them to injure their guts. They were eating very nourishing foods and ate lots of fermented foods to keep their guts healthy. There was also an absence of drugs and antibiotics
They lived close to nature away from pollution. They had lots of exposure to sunlight promoting a healthy circadian rhythm cycle. We are constantly finding out more about how important the sun is for our physically and mental health.
Because of technology and phones we are spending lots of time inside away from the sun. Blue light from modern technology has also been shown to mess with hormone balance and sleep.
I think we can learn a lot from our ancestors and incorporate some of their wisdom into our modern day lives

Dopamine is a very addictive hormone
Many people get stuck in a dopamine loop where they start doing everything for short term pleasure
A study showed that people who constantly pursued habits for short term pleasure had shown increased feelings of depression
Pursuing habits for long term results can be hard and take a lot of effort but at the end you are left with a long lasting feeling of happiness and respect for yourself
Of course it is natural to engage in some short term pleasure activities from time to time such as eating but without pursing long term goals it can be harmful
Eating processed carbs and sugar can be addictive due to sudden release of dopamine. This can even lead to eating disorders
