Look, I’m not exactly a cheerleader for conventional doctors. I’ve had my fair share of negative experiences with them...⠀ ⠀ ...being dismissed when I asked questions, being told my labs were “normal” when they weren’t, being mis-diagnosed, and sent on my way with prescriptions that were only a quick fix.⠀ ⠀ But those experiences caused me to advocate for my own health (and others, as a functional health coach); to make better choices every day, improve my habits, and learn about how my body works.⠀ ⠀ ‍⚕️‍⚕️ Doctors are busy people. They can’t hold your hand, making you change your food and lifestyle habits. They can’t make you drive home and cook a meal, versus hitting the drive-through or ordering a pizza.⠀ ⠀ They don’t have the time (or knowledge) to recommend food, movement, stress management tools, or supplements based on your particular health issues, like I do with clients (with the exception being a functional doctor/naturopath). ⠀ ⠀ The top reasons for doctor’s office visits are: type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, anxiety, depression, skin disorders, pain, colds, allergies, headaches, and high blood pressure. ⠀ ⠀ ‼️And the *majority* of them can be improved via food and lifestyle changes, as well as targeted supplementation.⠀ ⠀ Be honest...are you doing the basics:⠀ ⠀ • making meals at home? ⠀ • moving your body daily? ⠀ • getting 7-8 hours of sleep? ⠀ • drinking filtered water? ⠀ • cutting back on sugar + booze? ⠀ • making time for fun + self care • taking a quality probiotic ⠀ ⠀ If not, then let’s chat. Women who were exposed to the horrendously high levels of lead in their drinking water in Flint, Mich., suffered from fertility issues that led to fewer pregnancies and a higher number of fetal deaths, a new study reviewing health records from the city and the state has revealed. According to the Detroit Free Press, fertility rates dropped by 12 percent among women in Flint, while fetal death rates rose by a staggering 58 percent after April 2014, research conducted by assistant professors and health economists David Slusky (Kansas University) and Daniel Grossman (West Virginia University) found. Lead, as the Free Press notes, can damage the nervous system of the still-developing, vulnerable fetus. Exposure can cause miscarriages and stillbirths. Men and women can also be left infertile as a result of exposure. From the Free Press: There is no safe level of lead in the body, but the impacts of lead are considered most severe on the developing brains and nervous systems of children and fetuses. It can lead to lower intelligence, behavioral problems and diminished life achievement, according to researchers. And the damage is irreversible; it cannot be undone.
