I had a stressed out mom tell me once that she was so worried her baby wasn’t eating enough that she would bring him into the bathroom for meals.⠀ .⠀ She told me he LOVED when the toilet flushed, so he would get distracted enough to get a spoon of baby food into him.⠀ .⠀ Now, I didn’t tell this story to open up a mom bashing session. We are all doing our best as moms. So please, no hurtful comments. ❤️⠀ .⠀ What I do want to discuss from this story is responsive feeding.⠀ .⠀ Regardless of the feeding method you use when starting solids and feeding your kids, being responsive is a key component.⠀ .⠀ Responsive feeding is watching for your baby’s cues that they are hungry and full and responding appropriately.⠀ .⠀ This means if your baby tells you they are done, you stop feeding. If they show you they want more, you continue.⠀ .⠀ Keeping meals distraction free (no TV, no toilet , etc.) is the best way to fully respond to your baby’s cues.⠀ .⠀ Responsive feeding is the start of creating a positive food environment and a positive relationship between food for your kids! . Read on Post by @newwaysnutrition ・・・ It can be overwhelming to think of going from nursing or giving a bottle to actually needing to incorporate meals into your day for your baby. Good news, though! You don't have to go straight to three meals right off the bat. . . When you first start, it's more about getting the hang of the process for your baby (and you!). You want them to get used to everything about meals, but don't expect them to actually eat all that much. One or two meals each day is plenty for them to practice with for at least the first month or two. You do want to make sure you are consistently giving them these 1-2 meals, though, so they get in the practice. . . Once they actually start swallowing the food, usually by 9 months, is when it's a great idea to up meals to 3 times a day. Still no need for snacks here unless they show clear signs of hunger after they nurse of have a bottle first. . . Around 11 months most people start to think about weaning their baby from breastmilk or formula completely. At this point, start incorporating 1-2 snacks daily. . . This is, as always, just a ballpark! Every baby is going to be different. Some babies will be super into food and can't get enough of it right from the beginning. If that's the case, there's no harm in going straight to 3 meals! Some babies will need snacks earlier because they just have a larger appetite. Or maybe at 1 they still get a lot of breastmilk and so don't need as much of a snack. HOTCAKES SIN HUEVO (ALTERNATIVA CON CHÍA) ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Ingredientes • Avena 1/2 taza • Zanahoria 1/3 de rallada • Plátano 1 pieza • Chía hidratada 2 tbsp • Leche vegetal 1/2 taza • Canela al gusto ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ Pasos: 1. Hidratar la chía con agua desde una noche antes y dejar en el refrigerador. Por cada cucharada de chía son 4 de agua. 2. Lavar y rallar la zanahoria cruda. 3. Mezclar en un procesador de alimentos o licuadora los ingredientes: avena, zanahoria, plátano, chía ya hidratada, leche vegetal y canela. 4. Mezclar todos los ingredientes en la licuadora o procesador de alimentos. La cantidad dependerá de las paletas que quieras hacer. 3. Colocar en el recipiente. 4. Congelar. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ - Estas paletitas me han ayudado mucho para la salida de los dientes de mi bebe. Además aprovecho para que coma fruta, verdura y grasa. - Yo ocupe la mermelada que les compartí hace unos días. - Si quedan muchos grumos puedes colar la mezcla; en mi caso a Fernando no le gusta encontrarse pedacitos de fruta, por lo que necesito licuarlo muy bien. - Ustedes pueden hacer la mezcla que deseen, ya se con base de agua o con su leche (materna o de fórmula). - Las paletas caseras las pueden comer desde los 6 meses, siempre y cuando hayan probado los ingredientes por separado. - Los moldes de las paletas los compré por @amazon y se ajustan muy bien para las manitas de los bebes. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ #healthybabyfood

☹️What do you do when your baby gags? ⁣⠀ I'm reposting this today from a ways back on my feed after the conversation that has been happening about choking hazards the last few days. Choking is a very real concern (so glad more people are talking about it!), but there is a difference between choking and gagging! If choking and gagging is one of the things that scares you about your baby eating, make sure you check out my online course about starting solid foods (link in bio). It's designed to walk you through everything you need to know so that you are confident in what you're doing!⁣⠀ ⁣⠀ --------⁣⠀ Our natural response to gagging is to FREAK. OUT. So if that's you, there is absolutely no shame in it, it's a normal parent reaction when you see something that worries you. But here's the thing. Having that reaction can make it worse! Your baby looks to you to gauge a situation. If they see you scared, anxious, jumping at every little thing they do, they think that what is happening is wrong and scary. ⁣⠀ .⁣⠀ .⁣⠀ I know you've probably heard it by now, but gagging is totally normal! It's pretty much not a question of if, but when. And no that's not just for babies doing baby led weaning. If they don't gag at the very beginning of eating, they will likely gag as they get older and are introduced to other textures. It's just a way of learning. So sticking to purees doesn't mean that you'll get away from having to handle gagging. ‍♀️ The side note here is that if your baby continues to gag on foods after plenty of practice with them, talk with your healthcare provider. Sometimes there are different things at play! ⁣⠀ .⁣⠀ .⁣⠀ What should you do instead of freaking out? To be cliched, you need to never let them see you sweat! Yes, you will be worried. Yes, you'll watch them like hawks. But you don't outwardly react. You practice acting for all you've got. If your baby is gagging, calmly coach them through it. No sudden movements, no loud voices. There is nothing you can do once the gagging starts, to be honest. You need to let them work it out themselves, and being loud and scared doesn't help them do that. ⁣⠀
