Up close and personal . Few thoughts on Instagram algorithms. One top “ranking signal” Instagram algorithm uses is ‘interest’. So users who like flowers are more likely to see flowers at the top of their feed. Users who like cats are more likely to see cats up there. I can clearly see that playing out on my Instagram feed. The problem I have with this is, I like many things... . I like macro photography, but I also like landscapes. I like dark and moody, but I also like bright and cheerful. I like colours, but I also like black & white. I like cats and dogs and other animals (snakes not so much). I like nature, cities, flowers, mountains, street photography, still lives, food, portraits etc... I simply like many things. Variety is good. Variety is healthy. I want to be surprised and inspired by what I see here... all that beauty you create. I don’t want to be put in a box based on what Instagram algorithm BELIEVES I like, when in reality it doesn’t seem to have a clue. Does anyone else feel the same?
