Meet Michael Dickerson. A soft spoken mountain of a man. During the long mountain course laps he started to experience charley horses in his legs. They were so bad he had to use his long bow as a crutch from time to time. As he crossed the finish line the cramps took over his entire lower body and core. Any of us that have had a charly horse knows the type of pain this man was experiencing. With the help of some @wilderness_athlete hydrate and recover Michael was back on his feet some time later. Fast forward to Sunday morning wich was the heavy meat pack. Michael shows up with a severe limp as several of his muscles where strained or possible torn from the extreme cramps the day prior. Remember these cramps just didnt last for minutes but for hours during the event and after the event on Saturday. Michael insisted on finishing the competition so he strapped the 80lb sandbag on his pack and made the two trips up the mountain. All who were watching could feel his pain during every step. People wanted to help but Michael refused the help telling fellow competitor @hollywooddaveoo Jesus suffered a lot more then this carrying his cross for us, I can finish this. Michael received a standing ovation at the awards ceremony when Dave shared this story. Dave also handed him the @mathewsinc Vertix bow he had just won and said you deserve this more then I do. Michael also received the "hanging in there" award. One of only two custom made wooden TTH hangers. Michael taught all of us a lesson on humbleness and mental toughness. 2019 Spring black bear. What an amazing hunt. I don't think I've ever physically had a tougher hunt. This bear had an amazing coat and showed how tough bears can be! Huge thank you to @backcountry_baba_yaga for sharing one of the funnest hunts I've ever been apart of!

In honor of the bear I saw in my neighborhood yesterday afternoon, here is a picture from a couple of weeks ago when I flew down to Montana to hunt black bear. We woke up at 5an to hike up a steep hill... and didn't see a bear . Luckily the company made the whole trip worth it:) Check out my stories to see the cinnamon phased bear I saw yesterday, poor dude had a run in with a porcupine.

Here is my backyard training from tonight. I focused more on testing my gear then getting a good "workout". I did not count reps but went to the point where my muscles started to burn or I started to breathe heavy. Things to note, the box was on a slight slope to test my balance and how my pack would feel stepping and jumping off the box. I would draw and shoot from different positions to test my bow grip and torque. I would put my pack on and take it off differently to get a feel for how things shift around. A session like this is a good active recovery workout or workout to do during the last few days before a TTH event. The 4 exercises are stepovers, monkey dumps, log toss and burpee over the head toss.
