Meet your #NVAmbassadors!
We are excited to welcome (again!) @laurajhorval and her OTTB gelding Angel’s Tune to our New Vocations Social Media Ambassadors team!
Laura and her mom Judy adopted Angel’s Tune from our former Marysville, OH, location in 2013. Now known as “Grady” (or Grado or Graderade depending on the day!,) Angel’s Tune is an extremely in-your-pocket type of horse who always wants to be where the people are. Since being adopted in 2013, Grady, Lauren and Judy have been showing and collecting ribbons in the local OHJA and KHJA circuit.
Last summer Grady and his people had to take a break from showing due to an eye infection, likely caused by Grady poking his eye on something sharp which resulted in a lesion that never healed properly, despite Lauren and Judy’s best efforts. In the end it was necessary to remove Grady’s eye, but that didn’t stop the sweet gelding’s show career. “He is back to being in a regular program,” says Laura. “And he will be showing in the 2 ft this year with a student of mine that is leasing him!” Laura’s advice for anyone looking for their #RightHorse is to not judge too harshly on injuries. Grady had a bone chip removed in 2012, the year before he was adopted, and it hasn't slowed him down one bit. That, along with Grady’s eye removal, proves that horses with injuries can overcome their limitations and do just fine. Thank you Lauren, Judy and Grady for this beautiful testimonial!
If you too are looking for a success story of your own, we want you to know that finding your #RightHorse through #Adoption IS possible. Visit NEWVOCATIONS.ORG today and put in an adoption application so you, too, can make your next horse an ex-racehorse!

"As funders and industry professionals, we identified a need for accurate and credible data, and we see it as our responsibility to understand the issues and provide needed insight to guide future strategy. I am most excited about the simple fact that groups that have not previously worked together—AAEPF, AHC, ASPCA, and the Right Horse—have committed to working collaboratively toward a shared goal. This collaborative approach is exactly what's needed to make real change for equines." .
.
Dr. Emily Weiss, Vice President of Equine Welfare at the ASPCA, talks about the need for information in a great new article about the Equine Welfare Data Collective. Read the article at the link in our bio.
"I often catch Maddie in the pasture with Moxie just talking to him and hugging on him. I would love to know what all they talk about."
.
Was anyone else a horse crazy little girl who hugged ponies and whispered secrets into their ears? Follow the link in our bio to hear about how one special retired show horse was adopted to the perfect family ❤️
Congratulations to Kara on her adoption of Little Latin Lulu! Kara has been a proud member of #TeamMMSC since 2016, when she adopted both Really Really and Light and Thunder. But when her beloved mare Really Really was injured, Kara came looking for a 3rd horse to add to her herd. She has spent her mornings volunteering with us for the past several weeks, getting to know all the horses, and it was clear that Lulu picked Kara as her person right away. And the feeling was mutual! They fit together like two pieces in a puzzle, and we are so excited to cheer them on in the show rings this season!

NOW AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Tall (and growing still!), dark and handsome!
German-bred Le Condor, known as “Levi,” is not only gorgeous, but he is also teeming with talent! Levi is quite large, both in height and build, and we’re anticipating he will grow and fill out more, considering he is still young/ growing. He is also very brave — he was used in the under-saddle demo at our 2019 Open Barn & BBQ, and went around the ring (and over fences for the first time!) in front of hundreds of people like he was a seasoned pro despite a short racing career. Levi has been a quick study under saddle and shows a great deal of courage and intelligence, with focus beyond his years. He retired from racing with no known injuries and is an attractive prospect for the show ring with tons of potential! Could he be the #RightHorse for YOU? GOOD HELP IS HARD TO FIND!
This mare is SWEET, PATIENT, and SUITABLE EVEN FOR AN INTERMEDIATE RIDER. How is she not adopted yet?! Could she be the #RightHorse for you, maybe Glory's Secret, “Glo,” is a GLOwing example of how great OTTB mares can be! In no hurry to go anywhere, Glo is happy to stroll behind or next to her handler politely and attentively. Even when said handler is...a dog! Glo is a very simple and straightforward ride under saddle. She is very brave when it comes to new challenges and would be best suited for dressage, hunters, trail riding, or even some western pleasure!
