SIMPLE EXERCISE TO OPEN YOUR HIPS - This exercise stretches and helps release the hip flexor and adductor (groin) muscles - Your hip flexors usually get tight from sitting all day long, and believe it or not may be playing a big role in back pain - The adductors on the other hand almost never get any love causing them to be weak and tight. Weak and tight adductors can lead to hip and knee deficits as well. ‍♂️ - The key here is the posterior pelvic tilt to start it off, properly engaging your deep core and initiating the stretch of the hip flexor. (That’s that first movement you see me do in the video) - From then on, keep your hips in good alignment and start to stretch through a clock like pattern. Targeting the hips in multiple different angles ↙️↗️ - Remember to breathe and enjoy the stretch while you are on your way to opening your hips - Tag a friend that always talks about how they need to open up their hips

HIP FLEXOR GAINS! - What’s up, Achievers?! @laurenpak22 here and today we’re talking about ways you can train your hip flexors. Training the hip flexion pattern, especially when going above 90 degrees can have positive implications in terms of developing better capacity to handle the demands of sprinting. We’d later progress to more explosive marching; however, you want to master these more basic moves first. - Training the hip flexion pattern also has positive implications in terms of core stability. Strong hip flexors can help you to maintain better alignment during exercises like deep squats and lunges - both of which are moves that require a significant amount of hip flexion. - Lastly, a lot of you might be experiencing “tight” hip flexors but in reality your hip flexors just need a little bit of strengthening to meet the demands you’re placing on them. Because the demand is exceeding their current capacity - it presents as “tightness” when in reality all they need is a little training! - We hope this post outlined some reasons why you’d want to include some hip flexion training into your program! Start with level one and work your way up over time! Shout out to @dr.jacob.harden for the last one - it’s a doozy! - Until next time, Peace, Love, and Muscles ✌️! . . . #hipflexor #hipflexors #hipflexion #coreworkout #somervillema #achievefitnessboston

FIX YOUR EXTERNAL SNAPPING HIP SYNDROME . Oh boy this one was requested a TON after posting about the internal equivalent of snapping hip syndrome. So let's talk! External Snapping Hip Syndrome occurs as the tendons of the gluteus minimus, medius, or TFL snap over the greater trochanter bursa with movement. Bursas are sacs of fluid that provide smooth movements between tendons and bones. This can cause pain or progression to greater trochanter bursitis (inflammation of the bursa). This is fairly common in runners, volleyball players, or jumping & landing sports in general. So we start by strengthening the aforementioned muscles. These muscles are mostly responsible for hip internal rotation and hip ABduction so that's exactly how we will work on them. . ➡️ Gluteus Minimus & Medius Massage - First things first, we massage out the muscles to loosen them up which will help us move & feel better for everything else. . ➡️ Assisted Hip Internal Rotations - this can be tough to do especially if you can not control a full range contraction. You can tie a band or towel to your foot to pull it to end range and holding it in place actively . . ➡️ Star Planks - This is for isometric strengthening of the outer hip muscles. Start with isometrics especially if dynamic movements are too painful. You can make this easier by supporting the knee instead of the foot on the bench. . ➡️ Single Leg Sits - this exercise is for patterning proper hip and knee mechanics in different hip angles. . ➡️ Banded Split Squats Sliders ➡️ Banded SLDL ➡️ Banded Squats ➡️ Banded Glute bridges ➡️ Banded Knee Outs- here we add a light load to various dynamic movements that challenges abduction in different hip angles. Do them within your own tolerance! . . . ✔️ ✔️ . . . Still stretching those tight hip flexors? Maybe it’s time to change up your approach. If you like stretching that’s fine but maybe try a different way of stretching that involves movement, and combine this with strengthening exercises. Tight muscles are usually weak muscles, and typically you can stretch these areas all day long but they won’t change much! . 1️⃣ Tri-Planar Hip Flexor Stretch: get in your typical hip flexor stretch position but instead of sitting there stagnant, go in 3 planes of motion. Lean through the hips moving forward and back, side to side, and rotate. . 2️⃣ Bridge Hip Flexor March: wrap a band around your feet and get up in a bridge position. Now alternate marching with your legs while keeping your hips parallel to the floor and core engaged. This not only strengthens the hip flexors but promotes hip extension by activating the glutes too! . . . ‍⚕️- Grant Elliott future Dr. . follow @rehabfix ...... ! ______________ Take charge of your own health, understand your body, and get your daily fix of rehab, movement, and empowerment! #rehabfix • • • • • • • • • #keepmoving #hipflexor #hipflexorstretch #hipflexors #hipflexorstrength #tighthips #hipmobility #squatprep #squatwarmup #squatworkout #squats #glutes #glutesworkout #coreworkout #core #coreactivation #backpain #lowbackpain #backpainrelief #lowbackpainrelief #lowbackexercises #sportsinjury #movemore #movementismedicine #mobilitywork #prehab #rehab #strengthandconditioning #exerciseismedicine
