Such a special moment finding out last night that SONS of BLACKBIRD MOUNTAIN was a 2019 INSPY Award winner for Historical Romance! My mom and I were on the phone when we saw the news, so we had fun celebrating. I am honored to get to be a part of the wonderful Christian fiction community of authors. There are so many incredible books out there!
From the INSPY judges: "Sons of Blackbird Mountain is a novel that offers a unique and touching story of loss, redemption, love, and family. Rustic cabins, apple orchards, freshwater ponds, and wooded hillsides allow the story to grow richly from the landscape of its Appalachian setting even amidst the hurt and uncertainty of life in the South in the years following the Civil War. Bischof’s writing style is achingly beautiful and utterly immersive strengthened by a lyrical quality that is quietly profound."
A heart-full of thanks to the INSPYs Awards and the publishing team that I have the honor of working with at @tnzfiction and @harpercollinschristian!

I think I am possibly the last person to read The Underground Railroad, and I’m wondering what tools me so long. What a great book!
-
My husband is a big @npr fan. Sometimes it drives me crazy (don’t judge me). But he told me I should look up the interview Colson Whitehead did when this book came out.
-
Here’s a smidge from that interview and how he came up with this book:
‘I was just thinking of that, you know, childhood notion of the railroad being a literal subway. I think, like, when you're in school and you first hear those words, you imagine a literal passage beneath the earth and train cars. And then of course you find out that that's not the way it worked, and you're disappointed. So really, I was just sitting on my couch, and I thought, what if the Underground Railroad was a real railroad?
And then I thought, well, what if each state that our protagonist goes through as he or she travels north, each state is a different state of American possibility. And so South Carolina became a sort of paternalistic white state, North Carolina a white separatist state, and so on. And each time our protagonist gets out of the station in a new place, we sort of rebooted America in a different sort of way.’
-
I loved the narrative and the characters. They were so well written and I felt so invested that when the book ended, I was disappointed that I didn’t get to continue the journey.
If you’re even more behind than me, pick this up and read it. -

Sometimes you have a stressful week, and therefore need to treat yourself. This was my treat to myself. ❤️♂️♀️⛱
.
.
I started this one on loan from the library and I loved what I had read so much, that I wanted my own copy. .
.
.
Unfortunately, I have probably around 6 books going at the same time. I’m in this weird place where I want to read EVERYTHING but life won’t let me read them fast enough. So I just end up starting another book because I’m frustrated I haven’t read it yet. Does this make sense? .
.
.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday!!!! If you treated yourself to a new book this week, what was it? .

“Her mother had once told her that some people you meet are meant to be a part of your world forever, but some are meant only to change the course of your life and then move on.”
——
I attended the Paris Opera Ballet this evening and it was such an exquisite experience, a few of the dances were so romantic and I can’t help but swoon/sigh at them ✨
——
Also, I thought this photo would be appropriate to talk about the ballet because The Room on Rue Amélie is a World War II romance set in Paris. Sparing the details, the story was heartbreaking and beautiful, it reinforced my love for historical fiction sorry for the influx of posts lately, held them back because of the theme but this is the last of it, I’ll be back to posting according to my reading schedule!
Today I’m so excited to be working with @authorsabrinajeffries @tlcbooktours and @kensingtonbooks to share with you the new release of Project Duchess! I can not wait to read this! Be sure to grab a copy today!
Synopsis:
A series of stepfathers and a difficult childhood have left Fletcher “Grey” Pryde, 5th Duke of Greycourt, with a guarded heart, enviable wealth, and the undeserved reputation of a rogue. Grey’s focus on expanding his dukedom allows him little time to find a wife. But when his mother is widowed yet again and he meets the charmingly unconventional woman managing his stepfather’s funeral, he’s shocked to discover how much they have in common. Still, Grey isn’t interested in love, no matter how pretty, or delightfully outspoken, the lady . . .
Beatrice Wolfe gave up on romance long ago, and the arrogant Duke of Greycourt with his rakish reputation isn’t exactly changing her mind. Then Grey agrees to assist his grief-stricken mother with her latest “project”: schooling spirited, unfashionable Beatrice for her debut. Now that Beatrice is seeing through Grey’s charms to his wounded heart, she’s having trouble keeping him at arm’s length. But once Grey starts digging into her family’s secrets, she must decide whether her loyalties lie with her family . . . or with the man whose lessons capture her heart . . .
