Our Victorian 'Admission Free' sign was taken down during our redevelopment and is now with @ccjenkinsconservator and the team over at @mcrmuseum, receiving some much needed conservation work to restore it to its former glory.
⠀
Our gallery has always been free to enter (although donations are gladly accepted!)
⠀
We're looking forward to having it back up again soon.

"This is a Late Victorian Glass Carriage Lamp belonging to a distinguished gentleman from Titabor named Iyar Ali. Iyar Ali worked as a doctor in the Daflating and Basabari tea estates, situated in Titabar. His eldest son Marhoom Younis Ali was my brother-in-law. He married my first cousin. The youngest son was Marhum Mohammed Piyar, the noted Assamese litterateur. He stayed in Guwahati and his progeny still live there. In those times, Iyar Ali travelled around in a horse carriage to treat the sick. The lid you see in the photograph was opened and the candle was placed inside before the lid was shut again so that the candle does not flicker and go out." Note contributed by Imtiaz Hussain
