If you have been to my yoga class, you would have noticed a small orange Bose speaker that I always use. It’s a special speaker as it was given by my mom on my birthday last year in Bali. It was also my last birthday present from her.
I remembered clearly that mom said that the speaker is for me to use when teaching yoga in the future. I wasn’t even too sure if I was good enough to become a yoga teacher back then, but my mom just knew.
Funny enough, after I lost my mom, I don’t fear to lose anything at all, as I have already lost the one I fear to lose the most. So naturally, I am not afraid to grab any chance or do things out of my comfort zone even more because seriously “what is there to lose?” I still think about my mom every single day, but as my dear friend would say “everyone deserves to be happy” and yes, one can still be happy even after losing a loved one. For me, it’s as simple as being appreciative for all the small things in life.
Today is my birthday, but also a beautiful day to reflect that I am the daughter of a rebel and a warrior – my mom.

One of the modern misconceptions about Yoga is that it is mistaken as a form of physical exercise or acrobatics. What is coined today as a “Yoga class” for the most part is a series of Asanas. ♂️ Of course there are enormous physical, emotional, mental, energetic benefits from practicing Asanas. However it’s purpose is to ready the mind for Meditation.
Swami Sivananda coined it “Proper Exercise” (emphasis on the word Proper). The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali states that one should be steady and comfortable when practicing Asanas, without using excessive force or pressure. The latter part being key!
Breath and awareness cannot be dismissed, and by incorporating this, one should feel positive and centered. ♂️ It’s important to note that Asana is one aspect of Yoga. Anything you do can become Yoga if done with a certain intensity and awareness. Even drinking a cup of water - try it! A strong press from the shoulders is needed. (Build strength for this with dolphin push ups)
Have a slight grip on the ground with your fingers and hands.
Stay focused on your breath to get over your fear of falling. Make yourself fall on purpose a couple of times to realise it isn’t as bad as you think in your mind. (Roll out in to a forward roll, tucking the neck in to the chin)
Steady gaze at a focal point for balance.
Avoid noodle legs. Most people lose the engagement of the legs when upside down, keep the awareness there!

I say screw the self-image doubts. One of yoga's greatest lessons is that there are no universal standards for bodies, and that all bodies, genders, races and ages have the ability to benefit in their unique way. It’s liberating to come to a place where I could fully accept and embrace my body for what it truly is.

My baby is almost 6 pounds now, entering 36th week.
Mom asked me stay home more;
Hubby asked me to be passenger only from now on;
Edema was getting more obvious;
I needed to bring along the doctor’s admission letter with me everyday.
My little sweetheart, I am really looking forward to seeing you. Then you cannot use your long leg kicking my right lung. Come out and do yoga with me, I can picture lots of lovely moment when we do yoga together. Love you my little one, still staying inside my tummy.
