Just a few thoughts and feeling's on my first viewing of #ChildsPlay.
Opinions that might change when I'm ready to view it again.
I won't compare it to the 1988 film, as the remake is a separate entity, and can stand on it's own, albeit without any originality.
In general, my whole feeling towards the film is 'Meeeh'. It's fun enough, and definitely entertained me, and whilst popcorn entertainment is enough for some people (and generally, it's target audience), I wanted more from it.
Similar to the recent #PetSematary remake, I felt the film was rushed, which didn't allow much time for real character development, and most of the cast were underused. Andy, however, was great. But since #IT - those pesky Producers of, keep pumping out these films with a really quick turn around, and I think (both) film(s) could have done better if the script had gone through a few more rewrites.
The #BuddiDoll is kinda interesting. Looks terrible, but #MarkHamill's voice definitely helped. I quite liked this blank canvas of a robotic doll, which gets twisted and effected by the elements around him. I did like the little nod to the fact that we, as Horror fans, have always been told, that violence in Horror Movies is to blame for a lot of real life cases. So Buddi getting all fucked up whilst watching TCM 2 was both funny, and very on the nose.
There was one really cool, brutal death, but felt the other's were pretty unimaginative and forgettable. I quite liked the Silent Night, Deadly Night 5 inspired scene in the toy shop - but felt they were holding back a bit.
But the #BuddiBEAR - OMG - now THAT was fucking cute
The humour was fine, and I laughed a few times, but I would have liked to have seen possibly a little bit more of a serious film, alike the 1988 movie before Chucky became a comedian - but then, how serious can a 'killer doll' film be?
It's also funny to think that an AI, which has a Safety On / Off switch seems a far more ridiculous idea than a doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer
Overall, it was fun, but considering how disrespectful the whole production is to the CONTINUING OG series, I didn't think they brought anything new to the table.
midnight feature... The Shining. After seeing the trailer for the new film doctor sleep I'm hyped.
