I already know what’s coming. Those of you who think Watson should have been in tier 1 and others who think Wentz should not be anywhere near the top. . Deshaun Watson - was my first overall ranked quarterback going into last year so in some ways he was disappointing. However it wasn’t his fault. Houston’s offensive line was absolutely horrible and outside of Nuk, there weren’t a lot of weapons at Watson’s disposal due to injuries. Hopefully the offensive line has improved as they did use their first round pick on tackle Tytus Howard. If Howard pans out and some of these guys like Fuller, Coutee and Freeman stay off the IR, this can be as potent an offense as any. Watson has QB1 upside. . Carson Wentz - the only reason he’s not in tier 1 is because of his injury concern. I’m not as concerned as most because of the position he plays. Quarterbacks are less likely to take hits especially one with a good offensive line, which Wentz has. I think the Eagles rushed him back too soon last year and it showed. With all that said he still threw for over 3,000 yards and 21 TD in 11 games. So he still would have projected to throw for 4,000 yards and 30 TD had he played 16 games despite not being completely over an ACL and what many considered a “bad showing.” Fast forward a year and it was just reported that he’ll be a full participant in OTA’s. Carson Wentz is one quarterback you might just wanna roll the dice on as he also has QB1 overall potential. . The Texans season broken down into three waves: . They began the year with the apparent desire of passing close to 40 times per game while only handing off to their backs just over 20 times per game. After an 0-3 start and a consistent beating taken by their quarterback, they adjusted properly. Thank goodness! . The next 6 games they weren’t flashy, but were very much effective. They handed the ball to their running backs about 30 times per game, and dropped the pass attempts down to under 25 per game. This allowed Watson to take far less of a beating, and he averaged a TD pass one every 12 throws as opposed to once every 24 from the previous 6 games. Most importantly, they were 6-0 in this stretch . Over the final 4 games, they seemingly fell back into their bad habits of relying on the pass too much. They threw an average of 35 passes per game, and only handed to their backs 16 times per game. Watson’s TD pass per attempt dropped back down to one every 28 attempts, and again, most importantly, their record was back down to the .500 mark at 2-2 .
