Here at Hurricane Marine we pride ourselves on our versatility, but this job was a bit out of the ordinary even for us! The Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery asked us to splice rope barriers to form part of their crowd control for the amazing exhibition - Dinosaur rEvolution: Secrets of Survival. Can it be done? You bet Jurassican!
The good old fashioned skill of splicing isn’t extinct just yet.

Pull up a seat! Hurricane Marine is currently installing around 1100 seats on a new 110 metre vehicle passenger Wave Piercing catamaran being built by Incat Tasmania at Derwent Park. The cat has been commissioned by Virtu Ferries for travel between Malta and Sicily and will be the largest ferry in the Mediterranean. We may just find somewhere to hide on it before it sets sail for Europe! #hurricanemarine #incat #virtuferries #boatbuilding #shipbuilding #ropax #fastferry #hobart #malta #sicily #pullupaseat
Hurricane Marine’s Rod and George had the pleasure of crewing on “Alive” in the King of the Derwent 2019 this afternoon. The winner of the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Tattersalls Cup, Phillip Turner’s Reichel/Pugh 66 was first across the line in the iconic race. Congratulations to the overall winners in each division. Hurricane Marine’s 60ft Conquest, “Basic Instinct,” did a return trip from Hobart to Bicheno overnight to tow the Farr40, “2Unlimited,” home. She retired from the Sydney to Hobart race last Saturday with a broken rudder caused by a run in with a sunfish. Commiserations to the crew, which includes friends and members of the Hurricane Marine team. #hurricanemarine #marinesalvage #basicinstinct #conquest #RolexSydneyHobart #wecantowyourboat #betterlucknexttime
Hurricane Marine spent a drizzly Hobart morning undertaking stain removal on the CSIRO's 94 metre marine research vessel, RV Investigator. A good bit of elbow grease and she was back to looking her $120 million best, all shipshape for the next voyage to the Southern Ocean early in the new year. #hurricanemarine #rvinvestigator #csiro #marineresearch #marineservices #marinemaintenance #shipshape #whiteandbright
