ICAST on the water is a wrap! I am grateful to have the opportunity to represent some of the best, most reputable companies in the game. I’ll be in the @stcroixrods booth all week, right across from another one of my sponsors, @hobiefishing. (Stop over and say hello!) Hobie just dropped their new 360 drive, and I got to take it out for a test run today. I’m absolutely blown away at the continuous innovation, and desire to push the envelope Hobie exemplifies. This new drive won’t only literally go 360 degrees... it features break away fins that no stump, rock or man made structure can touch. I did a quick review, and ran through the specs. Link is in the bio, let me know what you all think of the new drive!
Breaking news; we aren’t entitled to ANYTHING. As I stood there in the booth at iCast, I silently watched them come along one by one and approach the folks in charge. “I want in this industry” “I need a rod sponsor” “I have x amount of followers, what can you do for me?” After hearing a response they didn’t want, they’d move across the aisle to the next company and repeat the process. I wanted so badly to run after them, sit them down and give them some truth... but I know it’s sometimes best to learn the hard way. The fishing world is no different than sitting down at a job interview. Research the companies you want to affiliate with. Know, understand and have experience with the products they offer. Tell them why you prefer their product and what sets them apart from the rest. Though we all desire to “make it”, be patient, promote what you believe in whether you’re getting a paycheck or not. Invest time in building the relationship, because at the end of the day, that’s what makes the world go round.
