Yesterday Ichinojo beat Takayasu, who was obviously out of sorts and still recovering from the flu. If Ichinojo can fight a few more sick and wounded guys, he may be able to stay in business. Actually, he seems to be way more active than usual. Pretty much going to have to send Kisenosato to the glue factory, though, sad to say. #sumo #grandsumo #ichinojo
ICHINOOOOJOOOOO! This motherfucker. A nomadic Mongolian of great size (6'4" and ~500lbs) and unusual strength, he was scouted as a youngster and came into sumo looking like he'd charge straight to Ozeki and on to Yokozuna. But things haven't gone that way, and he has been demoted twice, still in the top division now, but no longer a titleholder. But he must not want to go back to Mongolia without something more to show for it, because we are seeing a different man this basho. Truly exciting to see the glimmers of his phenomenal potential visible again after illness, injury, and bumming around. What a magnificent bastard. #ICHINOJO #grandsumo #sumo #tachiaiblog
Two wins in a row for ICHINOJO! I don't know what to tell you. No weight classes in sumo, and it's constantly interesting. Half the time he's barely doing anything, gives up as soon as he touches the tawara, and loses to people 300 pounds lighter. The other half of his time is split between calmly applying all 500 pounds of earthward force as a fulcrum for throwing other 300+ lb men effortlessly over one arm, or, more rarely, as we see here, using it to back up immense pushing force. Being Ichinojo must be like carrying a wading pool full of shampoo around with you. What a mighty mountain of Mongolian mass. Fun fact, while Mongolians dominate sumo's top division, he's the first Mongolian in sumo to come from a nomadic provincial family, rather than the city. #ichinojo #sumo #grandsumo #nhkworld #tachiaiblog
