Hey, guys! I’ve decided to tell you my life story, how I’ve become an IELTS tutor. There are four parts in my story: school, university, teaching experience at a public school and working on my own. The reason is that I see a lot of my students who keep struggling with English and their high school or university teachers don’t believe in them at all and even do everything to discourage them. (To make things worse, they study an absolutely different type of English at school—however, I was more than lucky with that). I’ve been through disrespect and bias, I’ve been through all that attitude, I swear! And I know how it feels. My English teacher used to tell me I would never make it . . . and look at me now; I teach IELTS in New York ! So here’s Part 1 (follow the #tutoraflifestory1) Let’s start from a funny story how I got to a Language Lyceum: I come from a relatively simple family with an average income. I was really fortunate to be enrolled at a language school. So there I was - a six-year-old girl who had no idea that her life would revolve around English. You had to sit an interview in order to be admitted to this particular language school, which had an elite reputation in my city. They didn’t just take anyone. The interviewer showed me several shapes and I was asked to identify them. There was a rectangle, a square and a right-angled triangle. The moment I saw the right-angled triangle, I said, “This is an unusual triangle, it’s weird and I don’t think it’s even real.“ My Mum’s face was like: “what are you talking about?!” Because of this, she thought I would never get in, but surprisingly the interviewer said “Thanks! That’s an interesting response. We’ll be happy to have you here” That’s how I got in to the Language Lyceum # 93 ❤️ Back in 1992 it used to be one of the best schools in my hometown, and we had English classes from the 1st grade (Cambridge and Oxford textbooks btw) Hope you guys like it and wanna know what happened next

I need 6.5-7.0 in Reading and Listening. How many mistakes can I make? ⠀ Let's see how many CORRECT answers you need to get in order to receive your desired score band. ⠀ Academic Reading: 6.5 - 27-29 7.0 - 30-32 7.5 - 33-34 8.0 - 35-36 ⠀ General Reading: 6.5 - 32-33 7.0 - 34-35 7.5 - 36 8.0 - 37-38 ⠀ Listening: 6.5 - 26-29 7.0 - 30-31 7.5 - 32-34 8.0 - 35-36 ⠀ As you can see you don't need to be perfect and you are allowed to make mistakes. So, how can you get your desired R or L score band? ⠀ Focus on easier parts of the exam papers. Reading Section 1 is the easiest. There are 13-14 questions. You need to answer them 100%. In section 2 there are 12-13 questions and it is a bit more complicated so aim to answer at least 75% - 9-10 questions. In Section 3 there are 12-13 questions and it is the most difficult part. Here you need to try to answer at least 50%. - 6-7 questions. In total: 13+10+7≈30 ⠀ The same strategy is applicable to listening - Concentrate on easier sections 1 and 2 and do them 100%. ⠀ Very important tip Do not waste your valuable time on difficult questions. If it takes more than 3-4 minutes to find an answer for just 1 questions then leave it and do the next one. It is better to miss 1 answer than to run out of time and miss 2-4 more answers.

I’ve been asked to make a post about the words you should avoid using in your IELTS academic writing Here are some things to remember: - Trust the official sites only (IELTS.org, British Council, IDP (Australia). - Depends on your level and what score you are aiming for. ⠀ - Since I’ve been preparing students for the IELTS test for 7 years, I’ve taken it 3 times, and I’ve got an IELTS expert certificate- so I know what I’m talking about Before you start writing reports and essays, make sure you are aware of the formal academic style: - no contractions (don’t, can’t), you should use only full forms; - try to avoid using phrasal verbs, although there are some formal ones (if your English level is B2+ or C1 and you can use some formal phrasal verbs accurately- go for it!); - no informal words like “kids”, “pros and cons”, “so”... ; - no idioms, proverbs or quotes; The next thing I’m struggling with is memorizing sentences or expressions (hello, ЕГЭ) IELTS is testing your own language, not your ability to memorize phrases or sentences. I used to prepare students for the English State Exam in Russia and I know where it comes from: “..and now I am going to give my opinion on this matter “.
