True story. You will NEVER see me running on a treadmill, and personally in my opinion, is the most counterproductive form of cardio exercise for weight loss there is.

But MILLIONS of people do it every day trying to lose weight, why?
.
I'll tell you why, because people are programmed by what they see on tv or what everyone else is doing or what their trainer may tell them to do so they can go do their own workout.
.
If you enjoy running that's a whole other issue, I have a number for a good therapist if you want. (Just kidding) Or if you are training to boost your heart rate, fine.
.
But if you're trying to lose body fat, running on a treadmill or the road for extended periods of time (sprints excluded, that's HIIT) can actually hurt your goals. Let me explain.

We are animals, whether you want to believe it or not.
.
And when our heart rate reaches certain levels for extended periods our body says "oh sh*t, we're being hunted" spikes the body's cortisol (stress hormone) level to hold onto fat for survival, even burns away muscle tissue. (Even more so if fasted) And more muscle tissue burns more calories.
.
Secondly your body heat burns fat from two types of cardio. One is HIIT, High Intensity Interval Training which is a shorter more intense workout using rounds of high output followed by low output usually for 15 or so minutes.

The second is extended cardio at low intensity walking, biking, stair climbing, keeping your heart rate 130-140 for 30 plus minutes, usuallym done AFTER a weight training program.

How did I learn this? I read, I watch, I ask questions, I research, and then read some more.

So by all means cardio it up, but make sure you're doing the right type of cardio for your goals.

Wish I was getting all dressed up and drinking Gin right now, but instead we’re throwing a two man pasta party in preparation for a 20 mile run tomorrow Feeling pretty nervous if I’m honest. My IT band isn’t painful, but I can feel it (if you get me?) which is making me feel a little anxious for how it’s going to hold up during a run- but I’m going to try and not think about it, sometimes thinking over thinking makes it worse.
