I think I’ve already spent way too much time comparing reviews of various monitors that will hopefully replace my iMac 5k. I’ve actually placed an order for one already and to say that I’m nervous is a bit of an understatement. By the way, I would like to thank all of you for your suggestions in my stories on what to get!
The idea is for me to fully utilize my MBP as my main workhorse. But that means I have to get another monitor in place of the iMac. Problem is, the very beautiful 27” LG Ultrafine 5K that I’ve been eyeing, unfortunately, has a worryingly significant number of bad reviews. Since it’s already very expensive, I wasn’t comfortable risking it.
I decided to order a 4K monitor instead. It’s size is 27” and also made by LG. My decision was based mostly on all the good reviews. Best part is that It’s less than half the price of the Ultrafine 5K. But the thing that concerns me is that while it’s the same size as my iMac, it has less pixel density. Now I’m really not what you would call a “pixel peeper” but, for a photographer, editing in an iMac 5k is just pure bliss. I do admit that It’s more about the sensation it gives me rather than what the intended audience will actually see. I guess you could say it just makes my work much more enjoyable.
The bright side is definitely the price so I think I’ll pocket the extra dough for something else in the future (probably during a tech sale or something). I know that LG also sells a 34” ultra wide “5K” but I’m not really sure I want to spend that much money yet. We’ll see how this smaller one goes first.
It should come in this week so I’m both excited and nervous. Silly me, getting nervous over a monitor. There is an almost intangible part of the experience of working in 5K that I’m just not entirely willing to compromise. I’m sure some of you can relate. Maybe

Grazie♥️

My Thunderbolt Display died last week, and it gave me a moment to think about revising my setup. Instead of buying another external display, I’ve updated to the 2019 27” 5k iMac, and I’ll try working with a single display again. I haven’t finished setting it up yet, but the screen is sweet and even just opening folders and launching apps is way faster! I’ll wipe and sell the 2013 iMac shortly. Looking forward to having more desk space…to immediately fill up with more music gear!
