Ran my first half marathon today . . . So, next week will be 6 months since I ran my first mile on a treadmill. I was depressed, having frequent panic attacks and basically felt like I was living in a pit that I couldn't seem to dig myself out of. I was also gearing up to start training to hike the Grand Canyon for a cause I was proud of and that went beyond myself. I was committed & I was going to honor that committment. Enter running. I didn't want to, but it felt necessary. Over time, I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed it. My panic attacks lessened and eventually stopped completely. Today, I'm pretty sure running saved my life. . . . Honestly, I've felt like crying all day because this week was just plain hard. Anxiety and insomnia have overwhelmed me. Because transition is hard. Trying to find a new normal when life has been INSANE for 4 months straight is hard. Being lonely is hard. Battling anxiety is hard. This is real life, my friends. . . . So today I decided I was over it. I reminded myself that I have the power to respond differently, to be intentional and to make choices that reflect what I want in life rather than just responding based on how I might feel. . . . I ran my first half marathon today, on a whim. And it sucked, and it was glorious and I cried. And I can't wait to do it again. -‐------------------ 》Currently listening to Can't Hurt Me on Audible for the 2nd time and it was the perfect thing to run to tonight. Thanks for the motivation, Goggins.《 -------------------- #canthurtme #discomfortzone #impossibletask #armoredmind #the40percentrule #uncommonamongstuncommon #mentalhealthawareness #bnbrunners #halfmarathon #everythinghurts

#ThursdayTruth . Before 75 Hard, I can 100% say that I absolutely hated reading. I have never been one of those people who sits down and reads a book in their spare time. I’d rather watch TV. . Want to know how much I learned from watching TV recently? Nothing. . Want to know what I’ve learned from hearing about some of the toughest people on the planet? Everything. . I never read a single book in high school. The closest I ever got was SparkNotes. Over the last 65 days, I’ve read 3 books. While to some of you that’s nothing, to me, that’s 300% more than ever before. . Now, you still won’t see me sitting down and re-reading Harry Potter. Why? Well, for one simple bubble-busting reason, Hogwarts unfortunately isn’t real. . You know what is real? The pain, suffering, endurance, grit, fortitude, torture and relentless power of will over the human mind that you will find in @davidgoggins book. . You can call me dramatic, but I’m not kidding when I tell you this is the best book I’ve ever read. This book completely changed my mindset on mental toughness. . I used to think I was mentally tough, but after reading this book, I realized I have so much more to give, and that there’s so much more I can take. David lives his life looking for the most difficult situation to beat; the biggest obstacle to overcome; to go down not the road less traveled, but the road NEVER traveled. David understands, and explains, that the body is incredible, but it is the mind that is weak. Once one gains full control of their mentality, the possibilities are endless. . I’m no where near the level David Goggins is on, but someday, I will be. . Long story short for all of you that read down this far: PICK UP A BOOK AND READ. Regardless of fiction or non-fiction. Read. Every now and again though, pick up and read a book on self-development. You just might learn something, and thus make the changes necessary to live your life to the fullest. . Thanks again to @annagetawhatwhat for the suggestion!

“ It’s about wanting it like there’s no tomorrow—because there might not be. It’s about thinking of everyone else before yourself and developing your own code of ethics that sets you apart from others. One of those ethics is the drive to turn the every negative into a positive, and then when stuff gets crazy, being prepared to lead from the front. A true leader stays exhausted, abhors arrogance, and never looks down on the weakest link. They fight for their people and lead by example. This is what it means to be uncommon amongst uncommon people.” — David Goggins This quote from “Can’t Hurt Me” really stuck with me and helped me reevaluate things. So, about a month ago I got the opportunity to meet David Goggins, and all I can say is this is the most inspirational book I have ever read. The stories and lessons I have learned from it have shown me a whole new way of tackling obstacles. Most importantly, it helped me overcome some difficult times. I’m excited to use these techniques in my new journey and beyond. So thank you Mr.Goggins, this book has helped me more than you know. #dnc #GHR #stayhard

Honesty hour: many times I have looked at my Instagram and thought to myself “damn girl you need to post something other than your face”. But then I re-evaluate. ⠀ ⠀ As weird as it sounds, this is good for me. This is my form of immersion therapy-every time I post, I actually get anxious. I fear that anyone who looks at my page will judge me as conceited, cocky, or obnoxious. I used to hate every photo of me; I was terrified to take any picture of myself at the gym. ⠀ ⠀ But posting and sharing these thoughts, this is part of me getting comfortable being uncomfortable. When I get over it, you’ll probably still have to look at my face if you keep following, but at least I’ll be okay with it. ⠀ ⠀ I’m here to stay in my lane. I’m not doing it to get followers, for compliments, or for attention. I’m doing it for myself and to overcome my semi-constant state of caring what everyone else thinks of me. It’s like always fearing that people are watching you at the gym-you can think it all you want but it’s not true. Everyone’s there to work or here to scroll, that’s really it. Once you (and I) can harness the power to be yourself unapologetically, things will go much smoother. ⠀ ⠀ Until then, enjoy this one if me and a lighthouse.

If they hadn't tried to break me down, I wouldn't know that I'm unbreakable.” - Gabourey Sidibe The last twelve months were some of the hardest days of my life. This is past me now. Running became an outlet. I needed to escape my reality many days because it was too dark and difficult. It didn’t hurt that I owned a Catahoula Leopard Dog who doesn’t stop needing exercise either. On January 1st I decided to go for a run, originally planning on 5 or 6 miles. As I ran, with Nola of course, 5 or 6 turned into 9 miles, the furthest I’d run ever. On February 2nd I was having a very challenging day, I stopped what I was doing, picked up Nola, drove to the park and we ran our first 13.1. A co-worker training for the Cleveland marathon suggested I do the full marathon if I was able to just do a half that easily. I never loved running, especially long distances. I never wanted to run 26.2 miles, who would? The suffering, the hurt. Now I did. After climbing a mountain in 2018 then dealing with divorce this finally sounded like a great idea. And it was. So hot and humid, all my training was in the cool winter, my quads and calves started tightening up hard around mile 21-22, stopping or just walking the rest of the way sounded so much better, but nah. Not sure I’ll do another, but now I know I’m unbreakable. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and support. What a great community the runners are. ♥️

This photo makes my day look great. It’s sunny and I’m smiling. My story features the best looking cream tea and everything appears great. But this is far from how today went. I like to share the ups and downs of my running journey and even throw in some of my life to give you a sense of who I am; but there are some personal things that remain personal. We all go through and sometimes when I take a hit it can knock me back or send me into a bad place. Today I’m not letting that happen. I had zero desire and plenty of reasons why I didn’t want to go out and do my 9 mile run tonight. I had no motivation and a million excuses. But as @davidgoggins says in #youcanthurtme sometimes you have to take the path of most resistance. No shortcuts. No easy ways out. Just me finishing off what I started when I got out of bed this morning. It’s easy to win when you’re motivated but I want to start winning when I’m not motivated. When the odds are stacked up against me. When I feel like hiding away. @miketyson proclaimed “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face” Well I got punched in the face today and I got back up and got back out there. 13 miles banked and another step towards my goals. #marathontraining #ukrunchat #asicsfrontrunneruk #mentalhealthawareness #discomfortzone #pathofmostresistance #impossibletask

“Poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights • But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, @davidgoggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world’s top endurance athletes • The ONLY man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring @outsidemagazine to name him “The Fittest (Real) Man in America.”
