I’ve ranted quite a bit about Etsy today on my stories, because they’re treating us like big guys, like we’re Amazon. • The fact of the matter is SMALL BUSINESSES CANNOT FUNCTION LIKE AMAZON. We can’t offer free shipping. We can’t hide free shipping in our product prices, because many of us create products that don’t generate a big profit. How can I hide a £4 international shipping charge in a £1 sticker listing? In a £2.50 greeting card? And if I do mislead my customers and hide shipping costs within item prices, what if that customer buys multiple cards? They’re paying for extra shipping they shouldn’t have to pay for. • There’s still a lot to figure out, I need to do some more research on the matter. But these are my first thoughts.... • Small businesses are important. We make a difference to people’s lives. Maybe not a huge difference, but a difference nonetheless. We bring smiles to the faces of people who LOVE to shop small. We can add little extra personal touches that big businesses cannot. We deliver excellent customer service because we KNOW every single customer MATTERS. • I also donated over £1500 to a cancer charity last year with the help of you guys buying my booby pin, with more to donate later this year. That’s a lot of money that I could have lined my own pocket with, but that charity helped my family in a horrific time that I wanted to give back, and it’s made a difference... • Let’s shout out those small businesses we love and hopefully bring them more shoppers in the future. I love @lizharrydesign @rosebudcasson @calliopepaperie @joannehawker @joannabehar and @shopshoal... I mean I love many many more but I can’t name a bazillion shops here • Also - I want to point out... without Etsy, my business would not be here today and it would not be as successful as it is. I am eternally grateful for Etsy, I’m just so disappointed by this move to prioritise sellers who CAN offer free shipping easily in high value items.
