I’m seeing a lot of bloggers post about how it’s the most wonderful time of the year & peppermint mochas & teddy bear jackets & all that jazz… so I want to take a sec to acknowledge that this can be a rly hard time of year for some ppl. Maybe u lost a loved one this year. Maybe u called off ur wedding & the holidays are a painful reminder that u don’t have a partner & everyone’s asking u if you’re “ok,” or they’re not asking & that hurts too (I mean idk I’m rly just spitballing here ppl.) Maybe u got some tattoos that your parents aren’t thrilled about so going home is a lil scary. Or maybe it’s hard to go home bc back home no one understands what u do for a living or ur sexual preferences or ur entire lifestyle for that matter. Maybe you’ve spent years getting comfortable w urself & loving urself & building ur own family bc ur family of origin doesn’t accept u for who u are or who u love. When a storm is coming, most of the animal kingdom (including humans) instinctually run away from it. But the storm often catches up with them anyway. Without knowing any better, animals continue to try to outrun it, which ends up maximising the amount of time they spend in the storm and exhausts them in the process However, the buffalo is unique in its approach. They are one of the only animals that, when a storm is coming, choose to head directly into the storm. Perhaps its because they know that the best way out is through. Perhaps they are seeking the greener pastures the storm has watered. Or perhaps they instinctively understand that by heading into the storm they are minimising their exposure to the storm, as it won't continue to chase them. Regardless, every time a storm rolls in, the buffalo put their head down and power through to the other side. Herein lies a powerful lesson. Instead of running away from problems, challenges, and negative experiences, try focusing on getting through it instead. Think of what could be on the other side, and move forward in life.
