Where do I even begin- a few months ago I was asked to make this years national costume for Miss Universe Ireland. I loved the concept that was pitched to me and I was able to put my own spin on it- to me this outfit embodies a celebration of irish women past, present and future. While Ireland is known to be a land of joy, friendship, fun, and equality ... the women of Ireland know that from time to time we still need to go into battle and make our voices heard (and I think we have shown that in the last year for sure!!) I have never felt more empowered then earlier this year during the abortion referendum, and proud to cast my vote... but the war is far from over! We will see big change happen in our lifetime. President Mary Robinson famously said “I was elected by the women of Ireland who instead of rocking the cradle, rocked the system”.
