Mama has neglected her own health over the past weeks in her duties as a mum. Knowing She wasn’t well and looking pale they did further tests and discovered her iron was very low and are giving her a double iron infusion straight after her bicarbonate infusion. Hopefully in the coming weeks She will start to feel a bit better. Her haemoglobin is low too but not too low that She needs another blood transfusion yet. The think she has another kidney infection so She’s also starting antibiotics today for that. But with some self care, family love, furry cuddles and lots of rest She will keep going. A few things on iron: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ - There are 2 types. Haem and non-haem. Non-haem iron is not well absorbed. - Vitamin C consumed at the same time as non-haem iron helps absorb it. - Phytates, oxalates, tannins, polyphenols inhibit absorption. Avoid drinking tea and coffee 1 hour before or 2 hours after your meals as compounds in them inhibit absorption. - Cooking plant based foods increases the iron that can be absorbed from the food. - Calcium competes with iron for absorption so if you need to increase your iron then try to avoid eating calcium rich foods at the same time as iron rich foods. - The only way to diagnose if you have low iron is via a blood test organised by your doctor. - A management plan for iron deficiency may include supplements- but it is NOT recommended to take iron supplements unless your doctor tells you to do so. - Iron supplements tend to cause constipation so if they are recommended, you’ll need to manage any issues by increasing fibre intake and ensuring fluid is adequate. A dietitian can help you with this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ➡️ Including some of the above foods daily, combining iron foods with vitamin C and avoiding consuming tea and coffee at the same time will help you to meet your daily requirements. If you are concerned see your doctor! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Iron is the mineral that conveys oxygen to the brain. Iron should have carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Iron is a trace element that is essential for human health, especially female health since so much of it is lost due to the monthly menstrual cycle that causes valuable nutrients to exit the female body. If there is blood loss, there is loss of iron. It is best to avoid synthetic forms of Iron that are commonly found in pharmaceutical products. Pharmaceutical grades of Iron are derived from oxides such as metals and stones. Inorganic forms of Iron include: Ferrocholinate, Ferrous Fumerate, Ferrous Gluconate, Ferrous Sulfate, Iron-dextran and Iron Oxide. They have been shown to cause constipation, especially in females. Iron fluorine is one of the best sources for optimum health. Iron fluorine is found in many of the foods and herbs we consume. This includes sea lettuce, seaweeds (sea moss, bladderwrack, hijiki, kelp, wakame etc), mustard green, amaranth, dandelion greens, berries, grapes, plums, figs, dates, cherries, burdock, nettle, yellow dock etc. Via @highertohealth Change2Alkaline✅ • • ☀️Follow @change2alkaline☀️➡️ #change2alkaline ⬅️ • • Turn on post notifications

Will your kid eat any of these foods? Answer below. I've been doing a series on food battles @kids.eat.in.color and iron is a big concern!⠀ It's super important for brain development and health, and a concern for mamas of picky kiddos.⠀ ~⠀ If iron is a concern for you, then it's important to offer iron-rich foods at meals and snacks, plus a vitamin C-rich food. Vitamin C helps your body absorb iron. ⠀ ~⠀ Heme iron comes from meat, poultry and fish. It is most easily absorbed by the body. If your pediatrician has mentioned iron is a concern for your kid, then offering these foods may be especially important (think dark meat and liver). ⠀ ~⠀ Non-heme iron comes from plant sources. It is not as easily absorbed, but still super important! So make extra sure you're offering vitamin C-rich foods along with plant-based iron-rich foods. Fortunately, there are lots of Vitamin C options like strawberries and bell peppers! ⠀ ~⠀ Remember, talking to a registered dietitian or doctor is important if you think iron is a concern for your child. Iron deficiency is unhelpful, so working with professionals to get your kiddo back and feeling good is top priority! ⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #anemia #anemic #irondeficiency #irondeficiencyanemia ⠀ #eatyourgreens #eatyourveggies #eattherainbox #recipeideas #snackideas #foodideas #snackinspiration #healthysnacking #nutritionist #nutritioncoaching #registereddietitian #dietitian #nutritiongoals #kidfood #healthykids #nutritionexpert #nutritioniskey #nutritiontip #pediatricdietitian #lunchboxideas #kidslunchbox #kidslunches #kidslunchideas #kidslunch #lunchideas #kidseatincolor⠀ ⠀

Our body needs iron permanently to form new, functional red blood cells, which then supply our tissues with oxygen. This means that those who exercise a lot and do a lot of sports (or train with a high volume) tend to need more oxygen and therefore more iron. If iron is missing, no fully functioning red blood cells can be formed. . Iron is the trace element that is most often deficient. Women of childbearing age are most often affected by a deficiency due to blood loss. An iron deficiency can manifest itself in excessive fatigue, but also in generally reduced endurance, strength and extended muscle regeneration time. Headaches are also a typical symptom. Anyone who suffers from one of these symptoms more often should have their blood levels checked. . Most people know red meat as a source of iron. Although so many people eat red meat, over 30% of the population have a deficiency. So it probably can't be an excellent source. . Here is a small comparison of red meat and plants: vs Iron content per 100g of food: Red meat: 2.2 mg Amaranth/Quinoa: 9 mg Lentils: 8 mg Soy: 11 mg Dark leafy greens: 5mg . So some plants have a lot more iron than red meat. In addition, my mentioned sources provide additional protein, fiber and other mineral and trace elements, which benefit our bodies. I hope I can help a few people. Especially young girls and women who often have problems with their iron blood levels. Do you know someone who might be affected or should know in general? Mark the person in the comments! . Will your kiddo eat any of these? Swipe left to see the meal. I've been doing a series on food battles @kids.eat.in.color and a lot of moms are concerned that their kids won't eat meat. Can kids get enough iron without meat?⠀ ~⠀ Daily Iron needs for VEGETARIAN kids:⠀ 7-12 mo: 19.8 mg⠀ 1-3 yrs: 12.6 mg⠀ 4-8 yrs: 18 mg⠀ 9-13 yrs: 14.4 mg⠀ ~⠀ A meal like this has about 4-7mg of iron (depending on how much your kiddo eats). It adds in vitamin C to help with iron absorption. Make sure to not add too much cheese or serve with milk, as those decrease iron absorption.⠀ ~⠀ You can serve a variety of iron-rich foods with vitamin C to make sure that your kids are getting the iron they need.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #anemia #anemic #irondeficiency #irondeficiencyanemia #plantbased #plantbasediron #plantbasedkids #⠀⠀ #eatyourgreens #eatyourveggies #eattherainbox #recipeideas #snackideas #foodideas #easydinner #healthymeal #kidseatincolor #plantbasedfoods #plantfood #plantbasedpower #plantbasedkids #vegetarianmeal #menuplanning #mealprep #kidfriendly #kidapproved
