I do this all the time and it’s been the best way to get kids writing a lot— without wrecking my weekends! Plus the self-evaluation part is invaluable!

Look at this BRILLIANT idea from @cameronclassroom ! Mallory designates a “catch-up” day when kids get to work on what they personally need to do. They drag their name to the box they’re working on. It enables the teacher to work with small groups and look up to see what everyone is doing. I’m sure it also encourages accountability. I’m definitely going to try this! Mallory shares lots of #cleverclassroomideas !

I know most of us are gearing up for state standardized testing and pushing to get through our list of standards. This bulletin board is one of my favorites to remind students that a standardized test is important but is doesn’t measure everything. New blog post detailing this easy print and go bulletin board kit through the link in my profile! What word represented is your favorite? ❤️

...and I won’t even be giving out the caps with these! No lid whistles either!!! Sometimes kids need fidgets and movement, that’s cool, and I totally embrace that...but other times there is a chorus of students trying to out-click each other just to be silly, looking at their friends and smirking...and we are DONE. Feel free to share links to sweet looking fanny packs so I can carry these around in style. #middleschoolproblems #iteach7th #iteachmiddleschool #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers #teachersofinstagram #teacherproblems
I’m going to see Hamilton tonight in Nola and that means I’m having a sub tomorrow!! I created these super simple sub tickets for my sub to give to those particularly helpful or well behaved students that they can then turn in to me for a surprise. Grab this freebie template and tutorial on how to make your own on my blog today! link in profile! #substitutes #subticket #freebie #blogpost #bitmoji
Welp, back to desks we go! Just being transparent with you all here—and some of you already caught this change in my stories—my 3-year stint with flexible seating came to a (dramatic, you know me ) end right before my spring break a few weeks ago. We really, really tried to figure it out for the first three quarters of the year, and it just wasn’t working for this group, which is fine. We adjusted. We reinforced. We chatted. They broke nearly all of the furniture. I lost my patience. Still love em. I genuinely believe that flexible seating is a great idea, but I also genuinely believe that we’ve gotta adjust to our kids and what’s going to work for them. For this class, flexible seating wasn’t it. Sharing this to a) shed light on the reality of my situation because I am certainly not a perfect teacher with perfect management or perfect pedagogy, and b) to say that it’s okay to make a change this late in the year/make a change that might seem like giving up—honestly, I fought myself on doing this for a long time, and now I wish I’d done it earlier. Hope this helps anyone who may be in a similar situation ✌
