Trauma recovery is about both members of a relationship. For survivors, this may appear obvious. However, for a partner, there is also a process because the impact of what is happening with your loved one will bring up things for you. This is true in all relationships.
There are many times I have felt stuck in this journey of supporting a survivor. There are many times I have felt helpless to do anything. This is so hard. But it’s been during those times, I have learned some of the most important lessons about me. I am learning to sit more and do less. I am learning to engage with really hard emotions without panic. I am practicing and learning as I go.
This is not a cognitive process alone. It is a felt experience and I wonder, as this quote says, if it reaches to my DNA.
Partner or survivor, wherever you are on your personal journey, I encourage you and applaud you. Trauma recovery is a courage journey for both.

It’s a never ending process but I’m proud of who I’ve become and where I currently am. Our world constantly changes - the people, the jobs, the places we call home, the material things we have and want, the experiences we take on, the dreams in our head... they all change as our life move forward. It’s important in this busy life that we take a moment to realize where we are, how far we’ve come, what we’ve created and where we heading. In the past year, it’s been a whirlwind, I haven’t taken as much time to realize where I’ve come and who I’ve become until lately and it might not be all perfect but I gotta say I’m pretty gosh darn proud of myself!

I’m so please with that as we had a meal out Wednesday evening and then my birthday yesterday ... which no matter how good I was trying to be, I couldn’t resist sneaking in a wedge of birthday cake (it was white chocolate ) But a loss just shows the dedication to food optimising throughout the week and especially Wednesday night, has paid off!

As I’ve mentioned so many times (because I’m crazily excited ) we’re off for afternoon tea and cocktails this afternoon so I wanted to make sure I didn’t drink too much and then miss group tomorrow morning! So rather than just not drinking too much - as of course that would be the sensible option, I decided to flip it on its head and go to group today so I can drink whatever I like ... because that’s just how your girl rolls! ♀️ Plus as you know I usually use weigh day as my “off plan treat day” so that’s exactly what I’ll be doing! At the end of the day you’ve got to find what works best for you and I know that for me, treating myself after weigh in gives me that little ‘fix’ I then need to jump straight back on plan ready for the week ahead!
