When Pearl was born, she was 690 grams (1lb8oz) and 32 cm (12.5in)
Much smaller than her triplet brothers, due to her intrauterine growth restriction. They were almost twice her size at birth!
They were born at 28 weeks but her size was closer to a 25 week baby. Swipe to see a comparison of her then and now, next to Rosie, her most loved bunny who has been with her every second of every day since birth.
Pearl is now almost 4 years old and she’s 93cm and 13kg... which is still small for her age but not by a huge amount.. and what she lacks in size she makes up for in sass and attitude. We sure feel lucky to have her here today. ☺️✨

I still look at them and can’t believe I had half my children at once.
They turn four in 8 days and I’m so excited for this milestone. To watch them grow has been amazing, and as time goes on, we see more and more of their uniqueness and individuality.
We are so very lucky.

STOP USING NON-STICK COOKWARE. I mean it.
.
Of all the topics related to #pregnancyhealth that I’m passionate about, avoidance of toxins is pretty close to the top of the list, right alongside #prenatalnutrition. The chemicals found in the coatings on non-stick cookware, which can AND DO transfer into your food and the air you breathe while you cook, are linked to serious pregnancy problems.
.
There are literally hundreds of research articles linking the perfluorinated chemicals (PFCs) used in the coatings of non-stick pans to a slew of adverse pregnancy outcomes, including preeclampsia, low birthweight, thyroid abnormalities, immune dysfunction, and more.
.
We really need to take this seriously and take a hard look at the cookware we use to prepare our food. Having to scrub some stuck-on food off of a pan is a small inconvenience compared to serious health problems or #pregnancycomplications.
.
This post includes a detailed look at the research on PFCs, including:
- How we’re exposed (non-stick cookware is one of many sources)
- How to minimize exposure
- How these chemicals impact pregnancy outcomes
- Safe alternatives for cookware (including a discussion on the supposedly non-toxic “ceramic non-stick” pans)
.
If you can think of anyone in your life that’s not familiar with this information, please pass it along. We really need to get the word out. Post currently linked in profile or visit the blog page on my site. https://lilynicholsrdn.com/non-stick-pans-pregnancy (Psst- my email list got this info over a week ago; they’re always the first to get my latest content!)

Laying on the floor with my girl, thinking about our trach/vent life
.
Recently, we’ve had a few experiences in public (on the way to doctor appointments) that have been less than stellar. After conversations with a few of our medically fragile friends, I realized that uncomfortable public exchanges are more common than not. This week, while checking in for Lily’s appointment, the woman working at the front desk asked me “What’s wrong with her?” which completely took me aback. Our friends have been asked things like this, all unsure of how to answer. Do we put our heads down and carry on? Do we use this as an opportunity to educate? I love that people are interested in learning about Lily’s accessories, but wish that we were treated less like a freak show and more like humans deserving of compassion. This community has accepted us with loving arms, and we are excited to help change the narrative surrounding these incredible children

Sharing about Leo’s pregnancy and short life in stories today. Leo’s life has taught me countless things, but ultimately I learned that sometimes our hardest experiences lay the frame work for our happiest experiences to play out. It’s impossible to see it in the moment, but it’s a beautiful thing to look back on and realize that your suffering wasn’t for nothing.

Kicking off #WorldBreastFeedingWeek and #NationalBreastfeedingMonth with a #TBT from Vic’s first week of life! ❤️ .
.
If we could describe the #newborn stage in one word, it would be: EXHAUSTING . For us, and for most new moms, the most physically and mentally tiring part of this phase is feeding your baby. Deanna and I have different stories to tell when it comes to #breastfeeding, but we can both say that it’s A LOT of work and it’s a lot harder than most people think! .
.
Deanna was overdue, and Ben was a big baby. He latched right away, but it put her in A LOT of pain. Even though he was born at a good size, he quickly fell below his growth curve. This led to weekly dr. + #LC appts and on-demand #nursing. This would be time consuming and exhausting for any mom, but ESPECIALLY for a new mom who just had major surgery [#csection].. She ended up pushing through the struggles {like a champ} and was able to #EBF Ben for a year! .
.
I was induced w Joelle at 37 wks bc of #IUGR. My body was notttt ready to give birth, let alone provide an adequate milk supply for my tiny babe. I also have #PCOS which didn’t help the situation / led to a low supply. This forced me to nurse then supplement then pump from the moment she was born {AKA nurse + supplement + pump + clean parts AROUND THE CLOCK}. She also did not latch well / put me in excruciating pain. BF caused me to resent my baby, not connect with her like “it was supposed to” ..So when I finally made the decision to exclusively pump and continue to supplement her as needed, it made my life so much happier and easier! .
.
My water broke with Vic and I went from 4cm to 10cm within an hour. My body was defffff ready this time. Bc of my history, I still had to nurse and pump back to back... but this time I actually had an oversupply! ♀️ Fast forward almost 3 months, and despite it still being the most time consuming and tiring part of my life, I’m chuggin along .
.
Bottom line is: A FED BABY IS A HAPPY BABY! And today we want to celebrate ALL THE MAMAS out there who are slaves to their babes, pumps, and/or formula dispensers. #YOUDAREALMVP ❤️
Check out lil lady, baby B! Most of the questions/concerns going into today's appointment were surrounding the findings from the last growth scan where the drs suspected the start of IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction) for baby B. While she still remains smaller than the other 2, she is growing! All three babies are looking good and the drs are quite surprised we have made it this far, with new hopes we can make it to 34 wks . Current measurements: Baby Boy A: 4lbs 5 oz, Baby Girl B: 3 lbs 6 oz and Baby Girl C: 3lbs 15 oz. This comes out to be 11lbs 6 oz of just baby!!!! The estimate if we can make it to 34 wks, 2 of them will easily be 5lbs or more a piece, with the third being around 4lbs. It is very hard to fathom this or being pregnant another 2.5 wks, but only time will tell. The drs are continuing to keep a close eye on all of us with NST's, fluid level checks and dopplers to check cord blood flow. So for now, we wait...
