#VintageStyle | #Throwback ~ It became one of the biggest scandals to rock black society in 1948 -- and that's because the headline read: "Husband of Model Sues Heavyweight Champ for Improper Relationship with His Wife." The model was Carrolle Drake (left), a 23 year-old beauty considered to be one of the most gorgeous women in black society. The husband was Matthew C. Faulkner, a 32 year-old minister. And the heavyweight champ? Well, that was none other than the Brown Bomber himself: Joe Louis (right). According to Faulkner's lawsuit, the sordid affair began in December of 1947 when Louis enticed his wife to become his mistress in exchange for gifts, cash and the promise of marriage. Faulkner claims it was at this point that his wife began staying out late and avoiding him at home, which, according to his lawsuit, caused severe emotional distress due to the sudden change in his wife's behavior. Faulkner claims that things took a turn for the worse when he discovered love letters and bundles of cash ($10 - $15k) from Louis to his wife. When Faulkner confronted Drake about these findings, not only did she deny it, but she didn't seem to care too much whether he believed her or not (Ouch!). Faulkner claimed Louis was having sex with his wife in his own bed as well as in different hotels around New York City. Louis, for that matter, denied everything, claiming that he and Carrolle Drake were just friends and nothing more. Furthermore, he claimed that Faulkner's lawsuit, which was seeking $500,000 in damages, was an attempt to swindle him out of his money. Whatever the truth was, Louis and Faulkner decided to quietly settle the matter out of court. Faulkner and Drake divorced a short time later, as did Louis from his wife Marva Trotter. Louis and Drake resumed their "friendship" until things cooled in 1950. Carrolle Drake eventually married Jazz crooner Billy Eckstine (7th and 8th pic), while Louis remarried three times.
Chapter 2 - "The Legend Of The Iron Fist"
Being from Detroit this is something i always wanted to do.
To climb on top of the iron fist has always been on my bucket list.
This monument represents the power of the people
It's in rememberance of how powerful Joe Louis's punch was in the fight aginst the Jim Crow Laws and racial injustice
United we stand divided we fall
Hatred places us in walls while the love conquers all
This is our moment to evolve "A Motown Story" : @miss.ganesha
