WANT TO PISTOL SQUAT? - The Pistol Squat is a one legged squat where one leg is extended and in front of you. You’ll want to develop a lot of flexibility in the hips, hamstrings, and ankle and strength in the quads, glutes, and abs. Some common ways to prepare for the pistol squat include: Deck squat start, Single Leg Balance, locomotion, Heavy Goblet Squats, Kettlebell Swings, and side lunges. - A good place to start is with flexibility and stability. Even some very strong people having some trouble with the Pistol Squat because they don’t have the flexibility for it. Practice the Back and Front Scales. Use this to build your flexibility and strength in your hamstrings, ankles, and hip flexors. - Quick Tips: 1. You can build you strength and power with weight or without weight. 2. You can build your flexibility while building your strength. 3. Spend time developing the mobility that you need so you’re not fighting yourself while learning the movement. This may also decrease your chances of getting injured. - Tag a friend who’s working on their Pistol Squat!

Something different for you today! . Take on these total body moves with a heavy kettlebell or dumbbell! . Jump Squat (shoot for power off the ground, not just height!) Goblet March (I try to think about standing as tall as possible here!) Z Press (think about sitting as tall as possible here!) Swing Clean (keep the bell high between or above your knees!) Reverse Lunge (take as big or as small of a step as you’d like!) . Save these and have a blast trying them out - practive with a lighter weight first! . If I’ve learned anything about training dozens and dozens of clients, it’s that people love kettlebells. . Or at least, they want to love kettlebells. . “Can you show me how to use a kettlebell?” . “My gym just got these new things - I think they’re called ‘cow bells.’” . “They look weird, but they look kind of fun too.” . I always get a good laugh when I hear comments like these. . While there’s nothing magical about kettlebells themselves, they can be a useful (and fun!) tool to work on strength, coordination, and power. . ⚙️ The moves in the videos above are not exactly beginner moves per se, but you could certainly try them out with a much lighter kettlebell. . (Heck, if you don’t have a kettlebell of any size, use a dumbbell! You may have to adjust your grip, but it will work just fine!) .
