•HELLO!• It’s been a while and I want to introduce myself to the latest people to join me on my journey. Thank you so much for your interest in me and what I do! •My name is Kīyonda Powell, some call me Kīy (with a long “i” like in kite, etc.) My mother calls me BUTTON (I have no idea where that came from- I was well into my adult years when she started lol) •I was born in the south, Charleston, SC and raised in Maryland and have been living in the District for the last 5 years. •I studied interior design as a second degree (first degree in Sociology with Spanish minor) •I’ve been a professional Interior Designer for over 16 years (meaning it is what I do for a living ) and I started KPDS a year ago! My background is in hospitality design but I have worked on so many different project types throughout my career- residential, commercial, set design etc. Pattern play with interesting color combinations is my special sauce! •Some KP tidbits to share: -I’m a VIRGO. I believe in that whole heartedly -I come from a long line of creatives in music, art, dance you name it! My grandfather’s band the #jollyjax recorded the Mickey Mouse Rock jingle back in the 50s. My cousin was Florence Ballard from the Supremes. -I am trying to tap into my family’s musical genius and learn to play guitar (my last instructor toured with Beyoncé! I brag on her all the time!) -I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc! While I am not active now I used to be a super Delta lol.
