️Pride️”I don’t care about my haters, and if you wanna fight me, then fight me”... not really, just love quoting vines haha! I’m posing “the house down” trying to not be overshadowed by @chops18 glitter beard. I wasn’t going to post this pic because it’s Pride Month and I didn’t think it was gay enough... #pride2019 #pridemonth #pride #pridefood #pridelife #lapride2019 #glitterbeard #gaycouple #gayfoodie #gaychef #gaycook #worldofcolor #instagay #gay #rainbow #tastetherainbow #prideflag #lgbt #lgbtq #foodnerd #somewhereovertherainbow #itgetsbetter #loveislove #acidtrip #pose #strikeapose #bringittotherunway #fashion #hernamesfashion #naomismalls

It often seems that the LGBT community & conservative Christians are locked in a battle of intolerance toward one another but fail to recognize shared history.
50 yrs ago, the NYC police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar / refuge for LGBT ppl. Being gay was criminalized in NYC & LGBT people faced incessant abuse by police. The morning of June 28, 1969, after a violent police raid at Stonewall, those persecuted rebelled, demanding human dignity, leading to the first Pride in 1970 & LGBT rights advancement that's celebrated today.
In the 1900s, Catholics, Jews & other religious minorities in Europe were often formally abused & excluded from political & economic life. Over time, these groups were liberated through acts that legalized their religious practices, gave them the right to vote & allowed them to enter occupations from which they were excluded.
Still, the LGBT community & religious minorities face persecution. This past Easter, 253 Christians were slaughtered in Sri Lanka. In 2016, 49 people were killed at a gay nightclub in Orlando.
Although Pride has recently taken on a more celebratory, commercialized nature, Pride & backlash from Christian groups in one frame embodies what Pride signifies to me: the preservation of the American promise & Enlightenment ideal that all humans have a right to life, liberty, & the pursuit of happiness. The same principles that support gay emancipation protect religious freedom.
Those who seek to be open about believing homosexuality is a sin should advocate protecting the rights of LGBT ppl & allies, like myself, to have the freedom to express the opposite view.
Moral absolutism—in the form of a parent forcing their child to undergo gay conversion therapy or in threatening individuals who hold the same view of marriage that Obama expressed until 2012 — contradicts ideas of tolerance & dignity for all that brave black trans women at Stonewall advocated. I'm grateful for the contributions of past LGBT ppl & for my Catholic parents who both ensured my right to exist authentically in this country & who taught me what it means to love thy neighbor.
Happy Pride.
"Pride means actual queer people getting to be centered amidst the celebration. It means getting to identify however it feels good for you to identify that day.” - @sir_babygirl. We went “On The Road” to visit our neighbors in #WestHollywood to capture the magic at #LAPride2019! See the fun had at our Catch One Lounge activity and hear @theveronicasmusic, @greysonchance and @sir_babygirl speak on what #Pride means to them, what musicians made them feel they had a place in music, and more
