I grew up in a doomsday cult. All of you former Mormons, JWs, and Evangelicals who believed that Jesus would come and cleanse the earth... you grew up in a doomsday cult. I literally did not believe I would grow old enough to go to college, get a career, have a family, or any of the other "grownup" things my parents had done. It was the Last Days and all I had to do was stay pure and innocent so I could be one of The Elect who would do the work of The Millennium and turn the Earth into Paradise.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ If you confront a young Mormon with that now, they are liable to look at you funny. But the Gen X and Boomer generations? They'll get this haunted look in their eyes and become really defensive. They can't explain why we're all still here. However, with Climate Change becoming a more and more dire reality, some of them (the ones that will admit CC is real) have a twisted glimmer of hope that Jesus is simply waiting for us to drive the Earth into our own Armageddon. I have literally heard the comment made in Sunday School that it doesn't matter what we do to the Earth because the Second Coming will happen before it matters.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ That is terrifying. These people need to be as far away from the political decision making process as possible. Doomsday cultists are decimating our world. Their personal beliefs will destroy entire countries across the globe. *Are destroying* I think it's important to begin calling it what it is. Jesus isn't coming. The only Armageddon happening is the one we are constructing for ourselves. This Earth is the only Paradise we will ever get, and Conservative Christian Cultists are enabling it’s destruction. Vote the fuckers out.
