The Ramblers’ Church . This church sits high on a hill above the Lincolnshire Wolds village of Walesby, occupying a solitary spot on the Viking Way, surrounded by fields of grazing sheep, deer and huge skies. There is only a rough, steep track up to it from Walesby or a hike across the fields from the village of Tealby. Its door is always open and the simple interior offers shelter from the weather for walkers; it was a favourite spot for the former Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman on his travels.  All Saints Church (its correct name) is no longer used for regular worship as local folk struggled to reach it because of its location and a new church was built in the village below.  There are still a few special services held each year for those hardy souls prepared to make the journey, and not surprisingly, the Christmas carol service is the most popular, held in candlelight as there is no electricity to the church.
