It’s with heavy hearts while we work hard at the scene of yesterday’s #durhamexplosion. We’re extremely grateful for all the hard work by so many of our City departments, our County departments, and our State & Federal partner agencies.
We also appreciate you, #Durham, for your patience and compassion as we continue this emergency response & investigation.
We are #BullCityStrong.

Keeping #LocalGov Engaging • Special thanks to the National League of Cities for having me as a presenter to State League Staff from across the nation. I took a deep dive into getting mayors and council members engaged and connected on #SocialMedia and legislative campaigns.———————————————————————— In a time where morale and trust in leaders is declining, elected officials must learn more ways to organically connect — period!

Our beaches are in good shape after the wet weekend ️ with very few issues found by our officers who have been out checking the coastline this morning. Sand levels are similar to what they were and the upcoming high tides should take care of any minor washouts.⠀
⠀
️ In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall totals were recorded in the hinterland with 127mm at Diamond Valley, 123mm at Maleny, 121mm at Landsborough, 113mm at Palmwoods, 111mm at Baroon Dam and 103mm at Bald Knob ⠀

I #THRIVE be immersing myself in #LocalGov—my latest #passion project was completing the 2018 Young Gamechangers program through GeorgiaForward! For 6 months I traveled South to Albany, Ga and had the privilege of working with big thinkers, innovators and thought leaders from across the state to uncover ways to solve problems in this community. It wasn’t easy—thinking outside of the box, asking residents the tough questions on workforce, education, housing, racism, failed projects, and consolidation—but we pushed the envelope in order to present transformational recommendations.
.
Special thanks to the residents, business owners, and stakeholders of Albany/Dougherty County for trusting a group of (virtual) strangers with your community—your home. You opened up your thinking to our unpatrolled ideas and your hearts to welcome us. I look forward to seeing (and am already proud to see) which of our recommendations resonate with you! (Pictured in red is one of my favorite mayors Albany’s own Dorothy Hubbard)
.
Special thanks to my Destination: Good Life team …we were (fire). We took placemaking and establishing a Downtown Albany identity to the next level. I’m excited to see the changes that will take place!
.
#Georgia friends, if you’re ready for a non-traditional leadership program focused on action rather than surface-level networking, I’d definitely recommend you apply for the 2019 program! DM me for details.
This month’s @cityofsaratoga community profile features #SCCFD Fire Captain Tyler Mortenson, who has proudly served #Saratoga for over 20 years!

Repost @cityofsaratoga
Meet @sccfiredept Captain Tyler Mortenson! Captain Mortenson grew up in the area and was introduced to a career as a first responder when he enrolled in an EMT class at @ucsantabarbara. When he returned home after college, a family friend and Captain with the Saratoga Fire District brought him to the Saratoga station and introduced him to the crew. ⠀
⠀
Captain Mortenson became a volunteer firefighter with them before he was hired in 1999. In 2008, the Saratoga Fire District entered into a contract for service with Santa Clara County Fire Department. This change resulted in a more efficient, regional approach to fire service in the West Valley.⠀
⠀
Captain Mortenson looks forward to the unknown challenges he will face each day. One of the unique challenges in Saratoga is the wildfire risk. County Fire has already taken many steps to mitigate this risk and promote wildfire preparedness in the community, and he hopes to see even more progress made in the coming years. ⠀
⠀
The Saratoga station has housed a wildland fire engine for several years, which also travels up and down the state to provide assistance through California’s Mutual Aid System. Captain Mortenson has deployed on this engine to large wildland fires both in and out of the County. Wildland firefighting, particularly on a mutual aid deployment, presents unique challenges and invaluable experience that can be applied to Saratoga’s local wildfire risk. ⠀
