These days, there are so many articles suggesting that we all eat brown rice, brown pasta, brown bread over the white varies. Brown foods are 'good', whilst the white versions are 'totally bad'..
Well..... there are many sides to this story!!♀️

Let's take a look at the BENEFITS of each rice.

BROWN RICE:
✅slightly more protein
✅slightly more fibre
✅more calcium
✅lower GI
⠀
WHITE RICE
✅less carbs
✅less fat
✅more thiamin
✅more iron
✅more niacin
⠀
..So both have benefits!

Choosing white rice is definitely not a 'bad option' if you prefer it and you are having a well balanced meal. Also if you are keeping to specific calories and macros white rice could be a preferred option.

At the end of the day, if you really enjoy white rice and you are having this as part of your healthy lifestyle, then there is nothing wrong with that!

Additionally, these same food choices will determine how HUNGRY or how FULL we are day to day, and will ultimately affect how we feel, and how sustainable with our nutrition we can be.

So while you CAN eat anything you want to eat and make progress at the same time, controlling portions and selecting foods that better support your goals is very important!

I personally love snacking on nuts, but find them to be quite calorie dense for their size! I can easily eat an entire snack bag on my own. This is one of my favorite snack swaps for when I’m looking for that SALTY SWEET combo!

On the left we have 3/4 cup ( 100g) of peanuts and raisins.

On the right we have 1 cup air popped popcorn and two tsps mini chocolate chips!!
I make my air popped popcorn by placing some popcorn kernels into a microwave safe bowl and cover it with a plate. Place in the microwave and voila! If you want that sweet and salty combination, I topped mine with two teaspoons of mini chocolate chips.♀️

Carbs are delicious and, personally, I don’t discriminate. But, for one of my clients who struggled with trying to eat “perfectly”, like I used to, carbs made her anxious. She felt like she could only allow herself to eat things that were “healthy” like sweet potatoes and Ezekiel bread. Now, I love those two as much as the next gal♀️, but when you tell yourself that’s ALL you can have your body is going to want to rebel and eat an entire loaf of white bread. Seriously, it’s happened to me! And it was happening to my client, too. She was frustrated that she was craving all of the “bad” carbs, she felt like something was wrong with her. Why did she have ZERO willpower?

During her time in my 1:1 No Food Rules coaching program we redefined what healthy eating looks like. We actually scheduled in times for her to eat things like white bread and refined, buttery crackers. This allowed her to normalize these foods and remove the “bad” label causing her to crave them. Guess what? She found she didn’t even LIKE THEM! It was biology that was causing her to crave them, not a lack of willpower. When she realized this she was able to free herself from the constant thoughts of the carbs she “couldn’t” have and the guilt associated with them. If she wants to have a warm dinner roll when out on date night, she can- and WILL, but she no longer feels the pull to eat the entire basket. THAT, my dears, is what it’s like to live the No Food Rules lifestyle!
