I received the phone call at around 10:00am on June 22, 2011 as I was getting dressed to go and pick my mum up from the hospital and bring her home after a short stint with a UTI. The nurse was crying and apologised and said, "I'm calling to let you know your Mum passed away this morning"...I remember saying I understood and was on my way and everything after that is still kind of a blur. All I know is that I was forever changed from that moment. I had lost people before but never like this and suddenly the one person who knew me best in the world was gone. She was my foundation, my inspiration, my confidante. I talked to her at least once a day (even when I lived in the US) who was I going to call now? I fell into a deep well of grief that lasted a long time and is ongoing. I don't wish that deep feeling of loss on anyone and yet I know I'm not alone in that feeling. While the anniversary of her death approaches the 8th year I am reminded not of the loss but the love. The love I had/have for her and her unconditional love for me. Today is my first Mothers Day without Mom, as most of my amazing Insta family knows. We have lots of old photos that we found and I just wanted to share these because they are so valuable to me. It’s my first (and last time as a child) trip to Disney World! I love the photo of Tigger and I because you can see my mom with my newborn brother @Dave cutillo helping me in the background. This is who my Mom was. She was so supportive and always put Dave and I first with everything she did. I would always tell her, Mom, you need to treat yourself! She always put everyone first no matter what, I strive to be like her on a daily basis. We also went to Circus World In Orlando and I love this pic of the three of us. My dad took all of these pics and I charrish them so much. I mean, look at my very first pic with my future boss! Mickey will always share a special place in my heart. I love and miss Mom so much but I also have a peace in my heart because she’s no longer suffering and is no longer in pain. I still remember how sick she was the last 2 months of her life. It’s a blessing in disguise that she passed. She would not be happy living on oxygen and not being mobile. She was always super active and ready for an adventure. I love you Mom, so very much. You gave me so much to look up to, and I hope to honor you by making you proud of the person I am, and strive to be. Make sure to hug Grandmom in heaven today.
