I distinctly remember the drive to Sorrento from Pompeii. We decided to take the scenic route - about an hour’s drive - and boy was it stunning. And scary!! It’s a hairy drive to say the least but if you’re comfortable driving and you don’t go in winter, you’ll be fiiiiine. And if you truly can’t handle the drive, just hop on a direct train. Easy peasy. Sorrento is stunning. Gateway to the Amalfi Coast, in my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful places in Italy. And let’s go there in style, shall we? Check out this amazing villa I found through @proprieteslefigaro. It is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Probably the most luxurious place I’ve ever stayed. With stunning views from almost every room, it can accommodate up to 24 people. I don’t think I left the outdoor infinity pool for a day. You see, the pool juts out over the sea, is surrounded by fragrant gardens, and has - wait for it - two hydro massage seats. Yeah. It’s hard to leave. But I did! You’re starting to get to know me, so you know I love everything Ancient Greece and Rome, which is why I explore these (and so many other countries) so much. I highly recommend you take a trip to Pompeii; the ancient city preserved by pure coincidence and clever archaeological techniques. It was buried quickly in volcanic mud from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. You can now visit it and see exactly what it was like in AD79. Pretty cool, no? There’s heaps to do in Sorrento itself but I suggest you just wander around and discover it at your own pace. A throwback to cruising the canals in Kerala. We hired a houseboat from Alleppey. You can do a day trip on the boat instead of staying overnight in one.
