A quick bit of high tech rock processing to make the fine dolerite gravel that is added to porcelain (high tech as in a hammer and a kitchen sieve...). The first run of cups made from this combo turned out so well in the last woodfiring I thought it was a must to revisit. This mug is the result of the 35+yr old clay I was donated that I posted about a few weeks back, Walkers dark handbuilding clay. I reconstituted a small amount (5 cups worth) to give it a test run. A couple were placed in the long firing in the big anagama wood kiln at #fireontheridge2019 and a couple in the short firing in the small wood fire kiln. The one pictured came out of the long firing. I like this one because in that firing the cooling cycle was much longer and it mattes of the shine of the glazes.This one has come home with me to give it a test run and I just keep using it. It has the hand feel of water polished stone. I really love the inclusions in this clay body, whatever the gravel/sand content of this clay was. Let me tell you a secret.... Tasmania is fast becoming my all-time favourite place to visit. Never disappointing and always beautiful - it is just a special place to be where I feel instantly settled, inspired and rested. ⠀⠀ Jewel came over to meet me at Bruny Island to stay at this cute little shack called @sheepwashbay for the weekend. Man this place is in such a beautiful location! They had a beautiful fresh veggie garden to pick from, freshly laid eggs and freshly made bread! Yup, everything was fresh and tasted so good! ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ For anyone keen on a visit @cabinlove is doing a giveaway right now for an awesome two-night stay at @sheepwashbay! ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I couldn't recommend staying there more highly! Plus they are in the middle of building a little secluded hut down by the water... as soon as that one is ready I will be right back for a visit.
