I still want to put some type of privacy film on the glass so cinder block doesn’t show through, but this project is otherwise crossed off my list. I decided to hang it on a barn door track even though I don’t have intentions of covering the entrance to the old part of my basement. Dozens of turned foot rings, the clay protruding from the glaze that surrounds the rest of these vessels. They aren’t all the same by any means, their diameter can change slightly from batch to batch but those more recent ones, which I’ve sold and have very little left, have stricter shapes. These bowls pictured have been collected over a number of years, so they vary. The feet and bases of pots are so important and need as much consideration when finishing as the walls, rims and any other part of a pot. Of course they needn’t be as neat and tidy as this but they must at least have some thought applied and care taken. I trim a lot away from my bowls. Not only is it my favourite process but making an elegant foot and turning away enough so that the pot feels almost weightless when lifted away from the wheel never ceases to get old. Perhaps I haven’t made enough.
