. After 7 VERRY emotional and challenging days, I finally met with the doctor this morning and was told that I am MALARIA FREE!! . I am not 100% and unfortunately it left me quite anemic, so I have to watch my iron count closely for the next 3 months and take iron supplements. This was one major bump in the road and I honestly didn't feel like I was going to make it through the week, but I am SO blessed once again to be alive. . I will try to catch off where I left off with my stories and posts, but please have patience with me in the process...the healing of malaria doea not end when the doctor says it's gone. It will take some time to recover and regain that strength and motivation to do even the littlest things. . Last Thursday I posted a #GinCocktail for a #MalariaNoMore post, it featured Gin Wala and having used it a few times I realised I’d not actually reviewed this gin, so here goes! . Gin Wala is a handcrafted original London Dry Gin created by fellow food and gin lover Sandeep Raithatha. It's produced in small batches, distilled and bottled in the UK by an award winning distillery and takes its inspiration from the flavours of chai . The recipe took almost a year to perfect and the few times I’ve featured it in gin masterclasses it’s received rave reviews. Their aim was to make a quality gin which would appeal to true gin lovers but also serve the restaurant market and this one pairs perfectly with spiced foods . It’s juniper forward but has other bold botanicals inspired by chai spices, with the sweetness of cinnamon and cardamom, the warmth from ginger and black pepper distilled with Assam tea and vanilla to deliver a smooth, warm and sweet spiced London Dry gin . Nose: Juniper and Cardamom are prominent with hint of ginger earthiness Palate: Juniper then the spice cardamom and pepper builds & builds, cinnamon notes underpin Finish: Ginger warmth shines at the end combining with the spices ending with subtle vanilla final notes . It’s delicious and punchy neat, as a G&T with #FeverTree Premium Indian Tonic it opens up and adding an orange peel (I used home dehydrated citrus wheel) creates a perfect serve. Today is the last day of #MalariaMustDie campaign of Fever-Tree donating 5£ to UK Malaria No More for every photo posted of a glass raised for Malaria awareness It’s been a month since the first Malaria vaccination campaign has started in Malawi. Let’s hope it’ll manage to have some results there. This vaccine only offers partial protection from the desease (about 40%) but the hope is that it will help with the malaria comeback observed in the late years. This is a complementary control tool along with the drugs, insecticides and bed nets that doesn’t seem as effective as before.
