12 dollars a day was what I was spending at Starbucks on average. That’s 84 dollars A WEEK. As a Starbucks Barista- I was always getting extra food and drinks, coming to get coffee on my days off, and using my excuse of “oh I get a discount” as my justification. When I budgeted out how much I was spending on things like Starbucks, eating out, and drinks, I was SHOCKED. No wonder I wasn’t saving any money- half of my damn paycheck was fueling my unhealthy habits. I realized it was time to prioritize my health- and this meant holding myself accountable to the things that were holding me back. For me- having little money in my bank account is a huge stressor and source of my anxiety. When I’m anxious, I like to eat out, “treat myself” to a 8 dollar coffee, and shop for new athletic clothes. All of which aids in the cycle of no money and stemming anxiety. This wasn’t going to work. I had to fix my bad spending habits in order to fix my mental health. . . So what did I do? . . I swapped out the restaurant dinners, for meal prepped ones. I started buying my own foods and fueling my body with nutrients. Lemme tell you- produce is a lot less expensive than you think. I started ditching my coffee for Fizz Sticks and Digestion Tea. I drink protein shakes for breakfast and lunch and create my OWN breakfast Açaí bowls and protein pancakes. . . Anxiety. We’ve all got it- some more than others. Social anxiety, situational anxiety, clinical anxiety... in some way or another- we all experience this feeling of anxiousness. For those of you who have been following me for awhile, you know some of the struggles I’ve faced with my anxiety. It cripples me, freezes me in my tracks and leaves me in the dust. It paralyzes my day and takes control. But only if I let it. For a long time my social media was a huge stem of my anxiety. I would spend hours on my phone.. scrolling and comparing and just sitting there doing nothing about my current situation. I’d dig myself deeper into the hole that was closing around me and feeding my anxiousness, instead of breaking the cycle and getting up off of my couch and doing something about it. One day I decided I wasn’t going to keep doing this. I knew that if I did, a year from now I’d be in that same position, on the same couch, looking at the same girls profile and comparing myself to all of the things she did that year that I missed out on. I now practice these two tricks to help combat this feeling, and to get me out of my shell of anxiety. 1. I wake up each day with intent and purpose. Before bed- I write out my goals for the next day... so when I wake up every morning, I know I have things to do to move me forward and I can start working on them right away. 2. I remind myself that without my struggle, my story, my hardships, I wouldn’t have the experience, the friendships, and the courage to share my story and help others. . .
