Yesterday morning I set off on foot from Mill Valley with four large plastic bags each filled to the brim containing a total of 50 brand new teddy bears and other sweet and cuddly animal plushies. Caught the first bus to Marin City where I waited for a corresponding bus to San Francisco. At first the bus driver said “Ma’am, we can’t let you on the bus with all those bags (he must have thought I was an indigent bag lady), but I adamantly insisted that I had to deliver these toys to City Team even if I had to pay extra bus fare for a second seat! Finally managed to make my way to the City Team location at 164 6th Street off of Mission. Delivered these plushies just in time for the staff and volunteers to distribute to children in homeless shelters this Christmas season. The plushies were purchased from the Bearington company with monies that my non profit, PATH raised through the incredibly generous donations of artwork and handcrafted items that incarcerated artists sent us. Dancing teddy bears. This hand made teddy bear art note card was created by San Quentin incarcerated artist, Gerald Moore. It is artwork like this and other sweet handcrafted items made by inmates from around the country and donated to my non-profit, PATH that has made it possible for us to raise enough funds to purchase 50 ct. brand new teddy bears and other adorable animal plushies from the Bearington company. These plushies in turn are being donated to a San Francisco based Christian organization called City Team. Check them out! www.cityteam.org. It’s s faith based city/ inner city mission organization that helps so many people in need. A flower for you! Another sweet teddy bear drawing and art note card made by San Quentin incarcerated artist, David Gonzalez. David, along with several other men at San Quentin specifically created and donated original teddy bear art note cards to my non-profit, P.A.T.H. as part of PATH’s recent teddy bear themed fundraising events and efforts. Monies raised went to purchase 50 ct. brand new adorable teddies and other various animal plushies from the Bearington company to provide to under-served children; children of incarcerated artists and children in homeless shelters in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. PATH is teaming up with Cityteam.org who will help to accordingly distribute the plushies. Come one, come all for a super fun, family, youth activity filled, teddy bear themed fundraising event. Have fun while supporting a great cause! Tonight...Friday 9/14 from 5:30pm-8:30pm at the Elks Lodge in San Rafael. Children are encouraged to bring their own teddy bears. Ukulele music, family dinners, a professional caricaturist - Pete McDonnell on hand to draw sweet memories, professional roving photographer- Monica May Design, face painting, balloons, storytelling, a bouncy castle, craft activities... not to mention a drawing of multiple gift baskets, plus a fantastic array of teddy bear related gift items and artwork for purchase. Elks Lodge proceeds will support their youth activities and PATH ( Prison Arts Touching Hearts) proceeds will be used toward the purchase of brand new teddy bears to give out to children of incarcerated parents during the winter holidays.
