14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,
16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
18 Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.” 19 You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God.[a] Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.
20 How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless?
James 2:14-26 NLT “God does not need your good works, but your neighbor does.” ― Martin Luther

#OnThisDay (1965): With Martin Luther King, Jr., leading the way, some 3,200 demonstrators in Selma, Alabama begin marching to the state capital of Montgomery to protest voting rights. Enduring violence along the way and requiring a National Guard escort at stages, King arrives in Montgomery on March 25 and delivers an impassioned, and nationally televised, address on the steps of the capital building. The 54-mile march is one of the landmark moments of the civil rights movement and modern American history.
At 6:01pm CST, 51 years ago today Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot. He passed at 7:05pm CST at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Memphis. I’ve had the honor of standing in the Lorraine Motel hotel room and on the balcony in the exact place he was shot. Because he did so much, what many of us fail to realize is how young this great leader was. He was young and full of life! He was literally on the first half of his leadership journey. In the face of horrific racism and possible death and bodily harm to himself and his family, he smiled and made others laugh and told jokes. A beautiful, intelligent YOUNG Black man, who was also a leader and a planner and strategically brilliant and a tireless worker for social and economic justice.
Thank you Dr. King.
May we continue your work.
