Slightly different approach this week but with good reason. Over the weekend, the legendary Irish fiddle player Tommy Peoples passed away. Up until my early 20s I had very little interest in Irish music. Then I heard the first Bothy Band album. I remember listening to this tune, Martin Wynne’s, in a friend’s house and every time the tune ended, I’d put the needle back to the start. Peoples’ performance on this record and this tune is utterly mystifying and encapsulates the magic of Irish traditional music.
