For the first chapter of ’ journey, my organic cotton drawstring bags -made specially in a carbon neutral factory as part of an ethical supply chain- served me so well. Yet, for some time, I have been looking to further minimise ’ carbon footprint by bringing the production of my packaging in-house. The brief I gave myself was threefold:
)
To create a product that would be long-lasting & functional in which to keep pieces safe
)
To source traceable, locally & ethically produced fabric made from natural, sustainable material & to ensure minimal environmental impact for the production itself, with a zero waste goal
)
I also wanted the bag to be something for customers to treasure, a slow-made keepsake to accompany their chosen piece
After months of research & design I am so pleased to share with you ’ new packaging, designed by me & my partner, David who has learnt to sew on a 1921 Singer to make these pouches that will accompany every piece of adornment
The material is a beautifully tactile, fully traceable linen twill cloth, woven on a Jacquard loom in Lancashire. Finished in a specialist mill in Yorkshire without bleach treatment, the cloth celebrates the natural hues of the flax weft yarn & GOTS certified organic cotton warp yarn
Our aim was to develop a design that would make the most effective use of the fabric; we created a pattern based on a simple, repeatable rectangle to ensure minimal, if any, fabric waste
By managing the production of the bags in-house, using traditional methods powered by 100% renewable energy, can continue to tread even more lightly

And now for something a little bit different. Today I wrote a blog post about how quintessentially European my business is. (Link in bio) Linen is a European fibre and Newton Paisley could not do without the suppliers we have just across the Channel. They are in fact geographically closer to us than our UK suppliers. It is a scary time for small businesses that depend on such relationships. I wanted to express some love as well as the fear and hope on this might-have-been #brexitday #jaimelelin #celc @wearelinen #ilovelinen #mastersoflinen @lindefrance #europhile

Zero waste: Flax has some inherent ecological characteristics as all parts of the plant are used (there is no waste) and are 100% biodegradable or recyclable.
The flax seeds can be used for flour and medical compresses. Linseed oil is squeezed out of flax seeds. The wooden fibres and flax fibres not suitable for textile production are used in heat insulation, mulch or horticultural compost.
Flax is a natural raw material, making linen one of the most sustainable textiles.
Our flax is cultivated by a group of organic farmers in France who use traditional techniques to allow the flax to grow at its natural pace, without using any pesticides or fertilisers. With their extensive knowledge and experience of the soil and the product, our flax is of a exceptional quality.
Our collection of organic linen represents the ultimate in ecological and sustainable production.
