And that's a wrap on our third HEDGE screening! Thank you to all participants who joined the screening in Baltimore this weekend, giving blood as part of the clinical research study with the goal of finding the underlying genetics and gene expression/s of hEDS. ➖
Next up is the Nashville screening at the Global Learning conference in July! If you are joining us for the conference in Nashville and have hypermobile EDS, there are places remaining to take party in the HEDGE study. Click the link in the bio to find out more about registering for research.

Sharing my mid-year goal for 2019 Read 30 books by the end of the year, five books a month. Did you know that the average CEO reads 60 books a year!
••
One of the books I am currently reading is @2minmed medical literature! They are the leading source of healthcare research news written by physicians. They've created The Classics Series to help clinicians learn the landmark research trials that inform modern clinical practice. Link in my bio! COMMENT below a book that I should check out

Why do we plate cells♀️ Cells grow in media which provides all the necessary nutrients and supplements for a proper cell growth
This process of cultivating cells from a living organism is called „in vitro“ because it refers to the work of maintaining the cells in a dish outside of an organism.
If we just want to expand the cells we use tissue culture flasks of different sizes depending on the amount of cells. Furthermore it is important to make sure to culture the cells in the right concentration, because each cell type prefers an appropriate cell density
Imagine that some cells like to stay alone while others love to have close contact with each other
.
For experiments we use plates with different numbers of wells which also differ in size. So depending on your goal you can either use a plate with a only six wells or a plate with up to 96 wells. The latter one enables the comparison of various conditions with using just a small number of cells.
In this video you see a 24 well plate with two different cell types and two different media conditions to compare the migratory capabilities of the cancer cells
Tramadol has been considered a safer option than oxycodone and some of the other commonly prescribed opioids because it was thought to be less likely to cause addiction. That is not true, shows new research from Mayo Clinic, and in fact a person receiving tramadol after surgery may be more likely to continue into chronic use. .

Conference O’clock (ft conference closet)
.
Tomorrow I am going to my first ever conference outside the UK. I am buzzing to hear all the latest research on Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, network with other scientists and enjoy that Portuguese sunshine. Plus I get a chance to wear smartish clothes (and justify my huge blowout on Oxford Street last week). Me, my factor 50 and the teeniest-tiniest bag in existence are ready to go ☀️
.
What is your favourite thing about going to a conference or abroad with work? Networking? The course content? The food? Lemme know! Plus, I am doing my first ever poster presentation so drop me some tips on how not to ramble on about random rubbish to people ♀️♀️

Bring on the Vit D. Bom Dia Lisboaaaa
If this growth rate continues as steadily as it has been for the past 40 years, by 2032 80% of all boys and 50% of all children will have some form of autism. .
This is fucking rediculous! What is it about this insane growth rate making it IMPOSSIBLE for genetics to be responsible for autism that people don't get This can ONLY BE A RESULT OF ENVIRONMENTAL OR CIRCUMSTANTIAL CHANGES!!!!!!! .
