Как оказалось, на Бурано есть своя «Пизанская башня»
Падающую колокольню церкви Сан-Мартино, расположенной на центральной, а точнее сказать, единственной площади на острове, мы увидели, к слову, задолго до того, как вышли на открытую местность перед ней. Сама же маленькая «пьяцца» показалась мне неприлично пустынной, и, скажу честно, разглядывать было особо нечего: дома хохлились в потертостях и находились в состоянии даже худшем, чем в более углубленных районах острова, хотя, как часто бывает в случае со средневековой европейской застройкой, общего вида и впечатления это не портит.
Оживляет это пространство площади, если можно так выразиться, только бронзовый бюст Бальдассаре Галуппи (имя каллиграфично прописано на мраморной табличке, и уже пост-фактум я выясню, что это популярный итальянский композитор своего времени). Но действительно активно, шумным туристическим хором неподалеку, лишь компания из ребят оповещала всех вокруг о том, что время еще слишком раннее (не было и пяти вечера) для столь послушного спокойствия.

Lanercost Priory, Cumbria, North West England
In 1311 the Scottish King, Robert the Bruce, led an army to the
Lanercost Priory. He and his army spent three days there leaving the priory
damaged. In 1346, another Scottish army plundered the church at
Lanercost. In 1384 war broke out again and Lanercost was captured and
held for ransom by the Scots.

Alphonse Mucha’s incredible art-nouveau stained-glass window in St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague. Part of a major restoration of the cathedral to coincide with the Millennium Jubilee of the Czech patron-saint St. Wenceslas, the glass was installed in the New Archbishop Chapel on the north side of the nave in 1931.

The central scene depicts Wenceslas as a boy, alongside his grandmother St. Ludmila. They are surrounded by various episodes from the lives of Saints Cyril and Methodius; the Byzantine missionaries who first brought Christianity to the Czech lands, and had baptised Ludmila and her husband Bořivoj I in 883 AD. At the apex, Jesus is portrayed above Slavia, the embodiment of the Slavic people. This is clearly an allegory for Christ’s blessing of the Slavic nations – an interesting insight into the nationalism of the era.

Powis Castle, Welshpool, Wales Seeing this reddish fortress you won’t be able to guess it’s long and tumultuous past.
It was built by a Welsh Prince Gruffudd ap Gwenwynwyn in the 13th century.
And since then, it’s been passed down and traded sometimes even to heiresses.
In 1952, it was ultimately given to the National Trust.
