The Treasury of Atreus, with its monumental shape and grandeur, is one of the most impressive monuments from Mycenaean Greece.
The Treasury of Atreus in Mycenae: The Treasury of Atreus, also known as the Tomb of Agamemnon, the legendary king of Mycenae, lies in a walking distance from the ancient site and is one of the most famous buildings of Mycenae. The Treasury of Atreus is actually a tomb: a vaulted tomb built of stone, as we usually find in Peloponnese.
The diameter of the tomb is almost 50 feet, and its height is slightly less. The intel stone above the doorway weighs 120 tons, with approximate dimensions 8.3 x 5.2 x 1.2 m. It is surmounted by a relieving triangle decorated with relief plaques.
This kind of tholos tombs are found all over Greece, they are about one hundred and nine of them are found in Mycenae.
The capitals are influenced by ancient Egyptian architecture. Other decorative elements were inlaid with red porphyry and green alabaster, a surprising luxury for the Bronze Age.
However, this tomb was partly visible when Schliemann came to Mycenae in 1879 and it had been looted centuries ago, which made archaeologists believe that it contained golden and other valuable offerings inside, that is why the tomb took its name. Not to mention that Atreus was the father of Agamemnon and also king of Mycenae.
A small path of 36 meters leads to the entrance of the tomb, which has a triangle lintel stone above the doorway, about 120 tons heavy.
The interior of the tomb creates a fascinating echo and the ceiling is vaulted. Constructed in about 1250 BC, the Treasury of Atreus is 13.5 meters high and has a diameter of 14.5 meters. In fact, it is the tallest dome for many centuries, till the construction of the Pantheon in Rome. Another surprising element is that the interior of this tomb was decorated with red porphyry and green alabaster, very rare painting colors for that time.

══════════════════ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ✷ The American researcher Martin Brennan during his work in Ireland in the eighties, rediscovered two large solar alignments in Loughcrew. His discoveries are detailed in his inspiring book, The Stones of Time. Brennan and his co-investigator Jack Roberts observed that the passage and the chamber of Cairn T are oriented towards the sunrises of the equinox.
In Cairn T, the sun does not enter the chamber until it rises over the horizon. This is because the monument is aligned 8 ° south east, possibly to explain the different declinations of the sun at the spring and autumn equinoxes. According to Brennan, the sun can enter the chamber for up to six days during the equinox.

Behold the monumental site of Baalbek – Weighing between 800 and 1200 tons, some of these stones were somehow moved into place with geometric precision. Not even with today’s modern machinery can we replicate this feat. The stones at the foundation of Baalbek are some of the largest, heaviest, stones that have ever been used in human construction on the planet! Mainstream archaeologists believe Baalbek's original foundations were created by the Romans. However, many disagree with this. The way the stones were cut and moved has fascinated researchers for years and it is a known fact that this ancient city was used for thousands of years by many different civilizations. The origins however, are unknown and why the site was so important is also unknown to this day.

Do not just casually glance over what your eyes are seeing in this photograph. For this trapezoidal subterranean chamber was precision engineered by an ancient civilization possessing some form of lost technology. Link in bio for the article & more photos.

Fanjingshan is an other-worldly peak in China’s Wuling Mountain Range. It is one of the newest natural wonders to have been added to Unesco’s ever-expanding list of World Heritage Sites. One of the main appeals of visiting Fanjingshan is the superlative views from the summit.
.
Fanjingshan, which in Chinese means “Buddhist tranquility”, has also been a sacred site for Buddhists since the Tang Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), 48 Buddhist temples were built on the mountain, many of which have since been destroyed. The ones that remain are significant pilgrimage sites for Buddhist worshippers around the world.
