You waste valuable energy when you focus on the factors that you can’t control. Ever do a WOD with a weight vest? Yea, it’s like that. It makes everything more challenging.

Each moment that you spend worrying about your competition, the wod, weather, programming, the heat times,or leaderboard you are adding weight to your shoulders.You are wasting energy that you could be spending on factors that you can control like mindset, preparation, recovery and communication.
.
If your thoughts begin to stray to things like “Eric is killing me, there’s no way I can win,” or “I’m never going to finish this before the clock runs out,” your performance will likely suffer. Remember, you can’t control Eric or the clock. Come back to something you can influence like your breath, body language or movement quality.

If you’re really freaking out about something you can’t control, then stop and make a list (actually writing down) a few things you can do that moment, or that day, that you can control. This will help you realize there is always something you can do to improve your current situation.

We can choose to focus on the things we control, or we can choose to focus on the things outside of our control. Whatever we choose, we will fuel and give more power to that aspect. Fuel the things you control. Give more power to your attitude, your effort and your response.

Mental aspect. Don’t doubt yourself. Know what your ability level is, know when to push it, and know when the time comes that you’ve out in the work and are confident in what you are capable of. Some of this was influenced by a book that my friend Garett from @kagwerks told me to read a long time ago. “With Winning in Mind” by Lanny Bassham. Phenomenal book.

STOP talking about how bad you are, how shitty you are at something or how much you suck.

Appreciate where you are, AND know you still want to get better. Yes, movements will challenge you. Workouts will be tough. But that doesn't mean you suck or you can't.

Be grateful for what you CAN do and be fired up to do even better in the future.
.
Do as well as you can with what ya got, and know that if you realllllly want to keep improving that you will.
.
Just cause you’re not where you want to be YET, doesn’t mean you completely suck - change your language and attitude.

Peak performance is more than just what you can do physically. You gotta work through the stuff in your head and your heart to be your very best.

No matter how hard you’re grinding in the gym, you won’t be your best unless you’re training, developing your mind - as well as healing and improving health from within.
.
Put as much or more time into your “inside work” as you do to your fitness. It will be worth it.
.
Get the help. Take the time. Talk it out. Surround yourself with others who are doing the work too. Reprioritize.
