Vivianite
53mm x 26mm x 10mm
Huanuni Mine, Huanuni, Dalence Prov., Bolivia •
Most vivianite crystals are dark and need a strong backlight to get any sense of the translucency. This piece is special in that the transparency is very apparent even with a small backlight. Well formed crystal with sharp edges and great luster. Good alternative to an Emerlad
Rich plates of Barite like this are rare from Susville, Auvergne-Rhône-Alps, France. I was told by someone who knew the miners that this was one of the best pieces to come out in recent years. Mined in 2012, it measures 13.5cm. A future French classic for sure!

We get a lot of questions about whether these Chalcopyrites on Calcite are real (or whether we glued glitter onto the calcite ). They’re completely natural! The rainbow iridescence is a natural surface alteration of the chalcopyrite that occurs at some localities. It seems like the most striking colors occur in carbonate-rich environments maybe that’s playing a role. This one’s from Daye, Hubei, China - SOLD
These blue alkali Beryls were quite a hit when they came out several years ago. Originally thought to be the variety Vorobyevite or Rosterite, extensive testing last year (by Pezzotta & Vignola) found them sufficiently distinct to warrant a being new varietal. Particularly interesting is a scandium-rich zone underneath the crystal surface.
Read more about it in the July-August 2018 issue of the Mineralogical Record, Vol. 49, No. 4 (pp. 563-572).
