Real life. I LOVE being able to close these drawers that store everything in our house. They are home to linens, legos, first aid supplies, coloring books, kitchen pans, and our “go bin” of important documents. But they get a little messy, especially the drawers with kid stuff. . . My goal is 2 drawers a day until they are done. And I made it through 3 today! . . This is what small house living looks like. It is constantly editing and re-evaluating what is in our home. It is being creative with the space you have, and everything habit a purpose. . . These filing cabinets were a labor of love. I bought them I think 6 years ago at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore for $40 each and painted, and painted, and painted. But I love them. The kids don’t learn to open the drawer until they are about 3/4 years old because you have to push the button. They are legal size and can fit a milk crate in the drawers with room to spare. . . Happy cleaning week!

Bye shoes! . . I do this every season, and lots of shoes are already gone over the last few months, but usually I couldn't say Bye to many shoes. . . I always thought: " what if I'll want to wear them someday?" Or "oh these are so pretty I cant get rid of them!" And then not wearing them for next years to come.. Recognizable . . I must have said “does this spark joy?” out loud like a hundred times this morning while organizing the kitchen. Even though I found the show very boring (and somewhat irresponsible), I believe this question works when trying to keep your belongings to a minimum. The few things I’m getting rid of are being donated or recycled properly. I still think this is too much, but it works for now!

Reading this last year gave me an ah-hah moment when I realized that I was living in a storage unit instead of a home. . After that realization, whenever I got stuck and found myself wanting to keep things in case or for one day, I reminded myself of these words. . Create a sanctuary, not a storage unit. . Btw., the book is a great read and amazing tool, especially if you are just beginning your decluttering journey.
